Can someone help me RE: Primary
I'm a registered voter in NJ. Have been since 1988. Always voted dem but never been a primary voter. Hadn't planned on being one this year either but I'd like to be this year (last minute decision I know).

Now I know that on at least one of my change of address I had marked mine and my wife's affilliation down as Dem but I never got any confirmation of that and never pursued it.

Can I just show up on primary day at my polling place and register an affilliation if they don't already have one on record for me?

I'm assuming since neither my wife (in the same boat as me on this) did not get a sample primary ballot that we are unaffilliated.

Any help would be appreciated.

1. NJ Primary Voting
Absolutely! Unaffiliated voters can vote in the NJ Primary. No requirements at all except that you are registered to vote. You just declare your party affiliation once you are at you polling place. Here is the press release clarifying the whole thing from the NJ AG's Office:

"New Jersey’s primary election law allows unaffiliated voters – those registered voters who never affiliated with the Republican or Democratic parties -- to choose a party on Primary Day and vote in the primary. "

By the way, if you aren't sure whether you are unaffiliated you can check out your status here.

And here is some other helpful on primary voting info from the League of Women Voters of NJ.

2. I voted this morning in NJ
They asked me my party and I was free to choose or change from my previous affiliation on the spot.
