I heard today was the first day the roads were fully opened.

Here are pics of the conditions and accomplishments of NJ's contingent to help in the New Orleans hurricane/flood:

From Star Ledger story:

New Jersey's first responders head home

The last of New Jersey's hurricane-relief responders are heading back home from Louisiana today, ending a mission that began more than a month ago involving about 600 police officers, hazardous material technicians, medical personnel and other emergency staff from state and local governments.

In the course of its work, the New Jersey contingent provided security patrols in New Orleans and some nearby cities, engaged in search and rescue operations and body recovery work.

New Jersey crews also helped Louisiana State Police clear their backlog of 911 calls and worked on decontamination teams.

"In the time of greatest need, New Jersey helped New Orleans turn the corner,'' said acting Gov. Richard Codey.

New Jersey responders searched 7,890 homes, rescued 67 people and 267 animals, recovered 115 bodies and gave first aid to 115 people.
