Hi. Looking for townhouses in the northern/central NJ area
in the New Jersey area (Preferably in Edison, Highland Park area)

The price range is between 250,000 to 500,000

It must be near a synagouge or a Jewish neighborhood.

If you can point me to a couple of websites to start, it would be great.

Following neighborhood would be great:

Passaic
Elizabeth
West Orange
East Orange
Edison
Highland Park

Let me know what you can find.

Thanks!

Hawkeye-X

We'd love to have you in West Orange! Good Democratic town which was headquarters for Kerry's presidential run and Bill Bradley's, too! There are also many nice synagogues and a terrific Jewish Y with a pool and that offers many cultural and educational programs.

I'll be on the lookout for you for a townhouse but in the meantime, here's a good Web site with pics of places that are available. Looks like there are at least three and possibly four townhouses in your price range and many looked quite attractive:

www.gsmls.com

(click Essex County, then W. Orange)

Here's a rundown of the stats on W. Orange, which was selected as one of the "best places to live" by Money Magazine:

2. East Brunswick
East Brunswick has Town homes under 500K, good schools and has jewish neighborhoods. Goto Realtor.com and look as middlesex county south and click on East Brunswick.

3. Definitely check out East Brunswick...
the schools there are very good, they have students graduating from EBHS going to MIT and Harvard. There are also three synagouges and a private Jewish school, the Solomon Schecter School (of the Raritan Valley) there, a private K-12 school if you decide to send your children to a school that will give them a traditional Jewish education. There is also a Yeshiva in neighboring South River (don't look there, it's a shithole), I think that the boys and girls are separate there-I don't know. There are many condos and townhouses in EB-older homes too that can be bought for around 300K, but need some work (we have one of these). The library is also fantastic. They have a waterpark, Crystal Springs (waterslides and all), that has a really good summer swim team. There are lots of parks, lots of places to try freshwater fishing too. My father grew up in EB, my fiance is from there, and still lives there. We aren't Jewish but onw thing that I really like about EB is that you will meet and be friends with people of all cultures. Our neighbors on one side are African-American (they have a Mercedes), on the other side they were Jewish but moved last year-they needed more room-two daughters and just one bathroom was too hard. My fiance's grandmother's friends are Indian. Mary (my fiance's sister, who is in EBHS as a Sophomore) has been to Temple with one of her friends. We have many Egyptians and Russians there as well. Chinese too. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to tell you more about schools, etc. Check out Realtor.com and start looking on there in East Brunswick for places. This is the best way. Then you can find out what part of the township they are in (it's a big place), and if it is a fit for you. Again, good luck!

4. i'd forget about edison. and what's wrong with south orange?
it's way overpriced. extremely popular destination for indian immigrants. which makes for great eating out, but right now, at least, very expensive housing.

i used to live there, it's very nice. i'd certainly prefer it to east orange. you might want to check out maplewood as well.

5. Yup, South Orange!
We've got the "Gaslight" condos and there are condos being build in about a year or so. Many synagoges also.

6. Is Brick too far away?
My friend lives over in Brick NJ in a nice Townhome community. It's right off of I195 and about 5-10 miles to the beach
