Former President Clinton stumps for Corzine
9/29/2005, 10:57 p.m. ET
By ANGELA DELLI SANTI
The Associated Press

UNION, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey needs a governor who's "full of new ideas and capable of implementing them," former President Bill Clinton told Democratic Party faithful who packed a 3,200-seat college arena Thursday for a rally championing Sen. Jon Corzine's candidacy.

The ex-president stole the show, as even Corzine knew he would.

"I'll shut up now," Corzine said as he introduced Clinton. "You didn't come to hear me."

Waving to the screaming, standing crowd, Clinton said, "You have to stop that or I'll forget that I'm not president anymore."

1. Bad poll numbers
Any idea if this will help? Maybe just a cycle of good now bad polling?

2. Sounds familiar...
Corzine, who once led Forrester by double-digits in the polls, has seen his advantage erode to as little as four points in one independent poll released this week. Two other polls have Corzine ahead by about 8 percentage points, with 10 percent or more undecided.

And that eight-point gap will miraculously disappear as election day looms. And Forrester will miraculously pull ahead by just enough of a margin to avoid a recount!

3. "Independent poll?"
I'm not in NJ so can't comment, though Imus chatted about Corzine this a.m. Was he ahead by 40%, and now he's fighting for 4%?

4. I dunno...
as I said in another thread, Corzine is our Senator and is pretty popular, so his numbers would be high until they find out more about Forrester. It's natural for such a huge advantage to slip as the race heats up.

As far as phony voting machines go, here in Union County, we use electronic machines, and who runs the county? Same in Essex and a bunch of others. Haven't seen much evidence of fraud, just dirty tricks, but who knows...

Only Republicans rig the machines, right? Warren county Republicans will bump the vote for Forrester, but Camden would never, ever, think of such a thing.

Right?

I live in what I call "the New Jersey Delta" because it's where Newark, Irvington and Hillside meet, LOL!

8. Union County here too
Do you go to the local Democracy for America monthly meetups?

I went to one, but am usually away when they happen.

Hope to get to some more this winter.

9. I may be wrong but wasn't the Quinipiack poll the one that
twice showed the Kerry/Bush race much closer than the Eagleton one did.

I. Bill Clinton in New Jersey!
Bill Clinton was in New Jersey on Thursday campaigning for Senator Corzine, and gave him a ringing endorsement stating, "I don't know a better qualified person I ever saw present himself or herself for the office of governor - ever - than Jon Corzine."

It turned out to be a fantastic event, we've listed some of the press accounts below.

Bill Clinton Brings Pizazz to the Corzine Campaign

By JOSH BENSON

UNION, N.J., Sept 29 - The New Jersey governor's race got a dose of political glamour on Thursday as former President Bill Clinton stumped for Senator Jon S. Corzine in front of nearly 3,000 people at Kean University. "I don't know a better qualified person I ever saw present himself or herself for the office of governor - ever - than Jon Corzine," Mr. Clinton said, to raucous applause in the university's basketball arena.

Bill Clinton pumps Corzine up
Ex-president, pleasing the crowd, praises candidate and Jersey, too
Star-Ledger Staff

Former President Bill Clinton heaped praise on Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jon Corzine last night during a campaign rally inside a packed sports arena at Kean University in Union. Over the course of 20 minutes of unscripted remarks, Clinton called the U.S. senator smart, capable, strong, honest, good, bright, an agent of change, a winner. In less capable hands, it might have been overkill; in Clinton's familiar, butter-sweet drawl, with a raucous crowd of 3,000 singing backup, it was pitch-perfect political poetry.
