N.J. Bishop Says He Won't Serve Governor
N.J. Bishop Says He Won't Serve Governor

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - The incoming leader of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Camden said that he would not serve Holy Communion to Gov. James E. McGreevey, a divorced Catholic who supports abortion rights.

The Most Rev. Joseph Galante said Thursday that he was taking the stance primarily because the Democratic governor remarried without receiving a church annulment.

Galante also cited McGreevey's support of abortion rights, stem cell research and other positions that contradict church views.

Galante, who was being installed Friday during a Mass at St. Agnes Church in Blackwood, said he felt duty-bound to take a hard-line stance on the issue. He said the public becomes confused about church teachings when bishops fail to challenge Catholic politicians on their voting records.

1. The Catholic Church..............
should get it's own house in order before criticizing and condemning others. I find it odd that they're singleing out Democrats for their scorn, when Republicans with equal or greater transgressions are given a pass. Guliani and Pataki come to mind, but these two are lionized by the church while these "heathen Democrats" are being chastized.
The hypocrisy amazes me. Of course the Church's hypocrisy has always amazed me, so I guess I shouldn't expect anything to change now.

3. The hypocrisy...
...is the main reason why I finally left the Catholic Church. I now consider myself a *Recovered Catholic*. After seventeen years of Catholic education, it took me another ten years before I finally got over it all.

2. Who'd you trust: James E. McGreevey - Governor, or the Pedophilia
Church of American. Sorry to be catholic bashing (I'm one myself) but I will bash and go all out on these bigoted and corrupt church officials until they are removed or restored to sanity. The scumbags have no right to smear elected officials. Boycott the Catholic Church.

4. The Catholic Church still has moral authority?
I figured it disappeared when they wouldn't take action against the pedophiles in the church. So they don't care about priests fucking little boys but when politicians stand up for their beliefs, they are denied communion. Thats some moral authority.:eyes:

5. Of course my congressman is a tool!
Rep. Chris Smith, R-Washington Township, said he is heartened when Catholic bishops call on the carpet Catholic politicians who stray from orthodoxy. "The more assertive the better," he said.

"I'm glad they're speaking out," said Smith, who opposes abortion. "There was a sense among a lot of politicians that there were no consequences."

But yet the church will still give communion to those who support the government sanctioned deaths of teenagers in Iraq!!

Personally I don't want communion from a church that preaches hypocracy...I have to go to my cousin's first communion on Saturday and the only reason I am going is because it's for family, otherwise you wouldn't catch me in church, and I'll be damned if I'll even accept their communion!
