Bush to stop in Stratham
ULRIKA G. GERTH

Staff Writer

STRATHAM — Several days after the Democratic National Convention ended in Boston, President George W. Bush isn’t wasting any time stumping for his re-election campaign in New Hampshire — one of 20 battleground states.

Before attending his nephew’s wedding at the family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, this week, President Bush is expected to make a brief stop in this Seacoast community to make his presence felt in the Granite State.

According to White House spokesman Ken Liasius, the president will speak at a picnic in Stratham sometime Friday and will likely honor a local volunteer from New Hampshire.

Details of the president’s visit and the identity of the volunteer he will honor will not be available from the White House until later this week.

So far, only the Stratham stop has been confirmed. But on Saturday, Robin Albert, director of the United Way of the Greater Seacoast’s Volunteer Action Center, said she received a phone call from the office of the Freedom Corps, the President’s initiative on volunteerism

I have to work Friday, so I can't make it to a protest, but can anyone else?

3. Protest details on Indymedia
Beginning on Friday at 11am, SPR & other peace/justice groups will be meeting in the parking lot of Stratham Hill Park on route 33, across from the Stratham Tech College (park is on your left if coming from Portsmouth, about 4 miles before the 33/108 intersection). We will have someone there until 3pm to help direct folks, coordinate carpooling closer to the event site, give updates. We will also have small groups of people holding banners at numerous strategic locations. We are calling for people to be there for this long span of time because of the importance of being there for the media as well as the event itself. We don't expect many of you will be able to stay for the whole time, but hope to have enough folks spread out between 11 & 3 to maintain a solid presence. For more info: amyla44@juno.com.
