NH Senator Sununu Hiding from Bank Crisis, Exits Banking Committee
Cross posted from my Daily Kos diary with my permission.

The headline reads, "SUNUNU APPOINTED TO SENATE COMMITTEE ON FINANCE", but buried within the press release is his leaving the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

Senator John E. Sununu is trying to clean up his act before his reelection bid and thinks, or actually his bosses in the GOP think they can hide the fact that he was one of the enablers of the current mortgage crisis. Give us a break and give New Hampshire citizens some credit, Senator.

WASHINGTON, DC – United States Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) today (1/24) appointed Senator John Sununu (R-NH) to the Senate Committee on Finance, a nomination that was then ratified by Senate Republicans on Thursday afternoon.

Sununu stated, "Most of our jobs in New Hampshire are created by small businesses, and I'm determined to give them a strong voice in the Senate. In a weak economy, we need to give New Hampshire entrepreneurs real incentives to create new jobs, improve productivity, and provide good healthcare coverage to their employees and families. And even in a Presidential election year, there are real opportunities to pass bipartisan legislation to improve Medicare for New Hampshire seniors by expanding access to electronic prescriptions and information technology."

McConnell said, "John’s success in passing the Internet Tax Freedom Act showed the leadership he can provide on tough tax issues. His support for small businesses is second to none and exactly what we need on the Finance Committee."

Sununu will continue to serve on the Foreign Relations Committee, the Commerce Committee, the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and the House/Senate Joint Economic Committee. He will no longer serve on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

A Member of the United States Congress since 1996, when he was elected to the first of three terms in the House of Representatives, Sununu is currently serving his first term in the United States Senate. Prior to his election to Congress, he held the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Director of Operations of Teletrol Systems, Inc. in Manchester, NH.

Sununu earned a Bachelor of Science and Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1987 and a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University in 1991.

Highlighting is mine.

The Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs has among other duties, authority over Banks, banking, and financial institutions, Federal monetary policy, including the Federal Reserve System and Money and credit, including currency and coinage.

Senator Sununu you can't hide from your past. You have totally failed us and the millions who are losing their homes.

dKos members I could use some recs over there.
