Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman considering senate run...

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The U.S. Senate's Democratic leader confirmed Tuesday that Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman has discussed with him the possibility of challenging Republican Sen. John Ensign this election year.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., added during a brief interview that the Democratic mayor is "a real vote-getter" and would be "a very, very strong candidate" if he entered the race. He noted Goodman got 86 percent of the vote in his last race.

"I'm happy to give him any advice or counsel that he needs or wants," Reid said. "I've known him for many, many years and will have to wait and see what he decides to do."

I guess the big question is, can he win? Oh yeah, would you NV residents support him over Jack Carter?

2. He'd have a MUCH better shot at governor

Ensign is from Las Vegas so that pulls from Goodman's base. In the gov race I think Goodman could dominate southern Nevada enough to win, but against Ensign and inserting the realities of a federal race and not a statewide race I think Goodman would lose.

Absolutely I would support Goodman over Jack Carter, who will get destroyed.

All they ever seem to put up are token/sacrificial candidates.

Porter is beatable, so is ensign.

For governor? ANY statewide dem running would be an improvement. I'd have no qualms voting for ANY of 'em.
