When Rep. Jim Gibbons finally makes official his intentions to run for governor next year, he'll have plenty of money -- and, a new poll suggests, a big lead.

A poll of 500 Nevada voters commissioned by Friends of Jim Gibbons shows the fifth-term Republican handily winning a primary and beating either of the two likely Democratic candidates in the 2006 general election.

Gibbons would win a three-way primary for governor with 53 percent of the vote, compared to 11 percent for Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt, an announced candidate for the race. State Sen. Bob Beers, R-Las Vegas, got 7 percent.

The poll, conducted by Republican Glen Bolger at Public Opinion Strategies, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.38 percent.

Gibbons also has a sizable lead over the two Democrats expected to run next year, garnering 52 percent of the vote to Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins' 25 percent and taking 51 percent against Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus' 27 percent, according to the poll.
