Dawn Gibbons plans run for husband’s seat

A day after U.S. Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Reno, said he was forming a steering committee to evaluate a run for Nevada governor, his wife Dawn Gibbons said she soon would begin campaigning for her husband’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Dawn Gibbons said Thursday that she is beginning her campaign early to find out whether Nevada’s voters want a congresswoman who also is the first lady.

“My plan is to travel all over the state, and my goal is to meet every voter in Congressional District 2. I trust Nevadans, and I think they trust me,” she said. “So I will know by the end of the year if people think it’s good for me to do this with my husband running for governor.

“I would be a very effective first lady, but when there are votes in Washington, there are a lot of things I could do in that role, too,” she said.

1. Yup, she's been thinking about it at least for a month

in December Dawn Gibbons threatened that she'd run if that screwball Augustine did.

I get the impression, though, that Dawn's not so right-wing nutty as her hubby. She voted for the state tax increase last year, for example. It would be interesting to hear what anyone else thinks about that.

But here's the perennial question about District 2: what Democrat could win up there?

4. Very late response...

But it happens that I know Dawn Gibbons; met her about a year ago and have corresponded personally with her (mainly about homeland security stuff, but other things too). I think she is not at all as right wing as her hubby, and would be a big improvement in that seat, if no Dem can get it. She is personally very sweet, and may be a RINO, to placate hubby, but maybe I presume too much.
