A Call to Help for All Las Vegas voters!! Please
If any of you voted in Las Vegas, could you please answer the following here. I am not asking to identify yourselves, just some basic information to help with starting an investigation in Vegas.

What precinct did you vote in? Or the address/polling place?

Did you vote on a machine with a printer?

If no, was there a printer on at least one machine available for you to use if you didn't want to use the old Sequoias without printers?

Lomax promised a new Sequoia "Edge" with printer at each of the City of Las Vegas polling places in case someone was nervous using their old Sequoia machines. Did that happen?

Thanks for your time! Please post here or you can email me through DU above.

1. I voted in Summerlin - early vote. We went up to the Sun City
Edited on Tue Nov-09-04 12:23 AM by stopbush
polling station on Sun City Blvd because 1) it was after 6 and we figured there would be no lines (we were right), and 2) it was close to my MiL's and she needed a lift.

Our polling place used machines that all provided a paper trail. You voted by touchscreen. Choices were clearly marked and had to be confirmed before moving to the next vote. You had ample chances to alter your choice if you wished. You could select only one option per issue (in other words, you couldn't over-vote by selecting 2 choices) - if you touched the screen to put a green check next to X then changed your mind to Y and touched that option, the check next to X disappeared.

At the end, you got to review all of your choices on the screen. Then, you had the option to request seeing them in printed form, which I did. A printed receipt scrolled up the left side of the machine. It sat under a clear window. At this point, you could still go back and change your entire vote if you liked. I checked the receipt very closely and hit Confirm. The paper receipt then continued scrolling up into the machine and disappeared. I don't think it was shredded...at least I didn't hear any sounds like it was being shredded.

I had a high feeling of confidence that my vote was counted. Could it have been altered some way post vote? I imagine. But I felt very confident about the whole process.

I was even allowed to wear my Kerry/Edwards button.

Edited to add: maybe I should also note that I'm female and white.

That may be of note.

3. Good for you both, I had the same experience in Elko County! But...
but I need to hear from Dems in Las Vegas, like in the center, like in Congresswoman Shelly Berkley's district. That is where the 2,100 ten year old Sequoias were used WITHOUT PRINTERS. Those are the machines that could have been manipulated for Bush and there is no paper trail in spite of what Heller and pals have been telling the national press.

Thanks for your input!

4. I voted (early voting) at the Smith's at Rancho and Craig.
Yes, my machine showed a paper ticket that you could check over, which I did, and change if necessary (not necessary; everything was OK.) I'm not sure, but it looked like the whole bank of voting machines there at Smith's each had the paper printout capability.

I'm in Shelley Berkley's district, and for the primary I voted on election day in my local precinct. They had one or two machines with the paper printout there at that time, and about half a dozen older machines without. I was told I could use a newer one if I wanted. But I didn't, since I was in a hurry and the only really contested races listed for the precinct were a few non-partisan ones, which I figured would be unlikely to be hacked.

6. Hi!
I voted at Oasis Baptist Church, Precinct 5039, on Desert Inn Road, on the East side of Vegas, in Congressional District 3. I voted on a new electronic machine with a paper that I could view after I made my choices, but I think they had old machines there also, because the poll worker said, "Would you like to vote on the new machine?" And my machine was the only one not behind curtains. I will check with my hubby to see what kind of machine he voted on when he gets home from work and get back to you. He went into one of the curtained areas to vote.

7. Yup, I Voted in Nevada
I voted early at Boulevard Mall on Maryland Parkway. It looked to me as if all the machines had the printers. Mine did and I checked it over carefully.

The print-out said John Kerry at the top. Don't know what was actually saved on the disk, though. :)

All the machines were the same. All had paper trails under glass.

18. Well, they voted for that idiot Porter - twice.
Had lots of b... signs on my street in 2002 - only one this time around.

We are the poor man's "Summerlin" - mostly Californians escaping their self described "republik of California" bullshit.

16. Precinct 7040 (I think)
Though I voted early at the Boulevard Mall. I must live about a block from Punkingal, in fact (Pecos and Harmon). Used the new machine.

I viewed about thirty or thrity-five polling places, though, when I gave rides to voters and made deliveries to the attorneys watching the polls. I wasn't watching too closely, but the only time I noticed an old machine, it turned out that it was a new one that had been modified for handicapped access.

At a station in Henderson, though, weird things happened. A pair of what could best be described as "young Republicans" kept coming in and trying to look over the shoulders of the polling officials, trying to read their laptops. They would make notations on their PDAs, and come back in 15-20 minutes later and do the same thing. I have a couple of theories on that...

I early voted at the grocery store on E Lake Mead though. (In North Las Vegas.) There was a paper trail on all the machines there.
