3rd Congressional District has a great Democratic candidate!
Democratic candidate Donna Anderson is running for Congress in the 3rd Congressional district in Nebraska, against the incumbent Republican.

She is campaigning in a largely rural district that has voted heavily Republican in the past. She has business experience, she cares about rural issues and she will promote access to quality educational and healthcare services.

She would be an excellent Congressional representative.

It would be great if Democrats could gain a congressional seat in the 3rd District. Democrats need to win a majority in Congress to reverse the damage done by the present administration, and winning the 3rd district seat would be progress.

1. It would be nice
if it wasn't impossible. Nobody in this state will EVER beat Osborne. I'd love to see it happen, Donna Anderson is a GREAT candidate, but I can't for a split second see it ever happening. That guy is a God to people in this state, its unfotunate that a former football coach could have the pull that he does, but the reality is that he could, and probably will, run for Governor and win in the biggest landslide in the history of NE politics. Its sad, but true.

2. Well
I think you make a good point that Osborne is popular.

But don't write off Democratic voters in the 3rd District. Osborne is widely popular. However, the only way a Democratic victory becomes "impossible" in the 3rd district is if people start subscribing to the theory you raised.

Nebraska has a long history of populism. The Kerry/Edwards ticket holds a lot of appeal to rural Nebraskans. And Donna Anderson is a great candidate. So the election in the 3rd District may be more of a race than Democrats in nonrural areas suspect.

Even a strong Democratic campaign in the 3rd District would be very good for the Democratic Party. Republicans would be required to expend resources (and time) campaigning in a large, rural section of the state. Plus, it will strengthen the Democratic Party for future races. And if the national election does go very well for Democrats, e.g. suppose there is a landslide victory, then who knows?

So, while I agree with you to some extent, I'm optimistic nonetheless!

I think we have a decent chance in the 1st district, about a one in a thousand chance in the 2nd, and not a snowball's chance in hell in the third.

on edit: I wish someone would do a poll for the presidential race in NE, I think it will be alot closer than it was in 2000
