Omaha World Herald going to the left?
The traditionally hard right paper (one of the last to defend Nixon in the US) has been moving away from the party line. The former publisher (Harold Anderson) left the party a couple of months ago. Read these 2 editorials and related links from today's paper.

Yes, accept those goodies from Congress; but let's call them what they are.

Summertime fun

Republicans fail to reap expected harvest from highlighting $145 million tab.

The Nebraska Republican Party decided this week to harvest a little political capital at the expense of U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb. The harvest never really got off the ground, though, before the Republicans were in apparent disarray and Nelson was coming off as the aggrieved.

1. Actually, it's been shifting left for quite some time now.
Even prior to the '04 general election, it was becoming quite apparent, particularly on the editorial page and in the letters to the editor that they've chosen to print.

2. Yup, I remember.
My first wife was from Omaha. When her father found out my political (and religious) leanings, he just about cried. We turned out to be good friends, though. I really miss her. She died in 1970.

6. I see alot of anti-bush
but not much pro-democrat. You can see that pretty clearly in the letters to the editor. Too bad 2/3 of the editorials are from George Will types, but there are some good anti-bush ones also.

That's the general problem with this state right now: alot of anti-republican feelings but not alot of pro-democrat.
