Chastain Scales Back Light Rail Proposal
Activist Won't Pursue Changes To City Charter

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --

Activist Clay Chastain is shortening the route in his light rail proposal and making other changes.

His bid to change the city charter will also be put on hold, Chastain said.

Chastain said his plan costs $2.4 billion, which will be paid for by extending a three-eights of a cent sales tax for another 25 years. He would add a one-eighth of a cent tax that's available for transportation programs. He also said that he would get federal money to pay for 60 percent of the cost.

Chastain said that he will also shorten the proposed rail route from 28 to 22 miles.

Chastain needs more than 4,000 signatures of registered voters by July to put the measure on the November ballot.

1. He doesn't even live in Kansas City. 2. No one wants to raise taxes for this sh*t. 3. Kansas City is about the easiest city in the country to drive around in. It would take longer to take the train the 20 minutes from Downtown to the Airport than it would to drive it. 4. No light rail plan in KC would ever work without including the East/West suburbs and the Overland Park business area. 5. he also wants to change the rules so that the City can't cancel his plans even after they win in a vote (because that's what happened last time cause rational people see his ideas as ridiculous.

Give it up man!! Go pester some other city!
