Hi Missouri! Looks like I might be moving to Columbia-
This will be a big move for me, from California, halfway across the country. It's a new job, within the Democratic Party, and I'm very excited.

Anyone here form Boone County? What can you tell me about Columbia? What are the good restaurants? Anyone know of good grassroots movements there? Anything anyone here can tell me would be great. Thanks.

1. Ooooh, I love Columbia
I grew up and lived very near there until I moved 4 years ago.

Boone County has become a bit more red, but Columbia is pretty liberal. Lots of wonderful parks and trails, and also a very diverse town (for being smack in the center of the midwest).

Good luck with your move!!

2. I'm looking really forward to it.
I know when I looked at the rent for apartments, I got a big smile on my face.

3. There is a great DFA group there
Several of them are DUers. Once you get settled, let us know if you come over to KC and we will have a meetup.

9. be outgoing
The midwest can be a little reserved to new people. Take the initiative to make friends and they will open up to you.

10. Home of the Missouri Tigers
Go Mizzou!

If you can't live in Kansas City, Columbia is the next best city in Missouri. (My apologies to St. Louisians.)

13. Have you moved yet?
I have resided in Columbia for the last few years and it is like no other place in central MO that I have any familiarity with, as Columbia rocks, and the people are very friendly. All in all, it's just a great place to live, work and send your children to school.

Oh yes and good luck with the new job.

14. You're pretty close to St. Louis too.
Close enough to watch a Cardinals game, go up in the Arch, see one of the Highest rated Zoos (and admission is FREE), the science center, The City Museum (if you have kids)...

As far as Columbia, I know it is much bigger than it used to be. but I can't tell you a whole lot about it.
