earthquake insurance
Hi. I just got a notice that All State Insurance will no longer be including earthquake insurance in my policy. I wondered if anyone knows of companies who do provide homeowners insurance policies with earthquake insurance in Missouri? I'm going to look around for alternatives.

1. In CA and Allstate just told us the same thing
And we are not having any luck finding another provider of the insurance for our condo development in the Bay Area.

If anyone knows a provider that will provide earthquake insurance to a condo HOA, please let me know.

2. I'm in Iowa and State Farm covers me.
Do you suspect they know something we don't? I know, we are sitting on a big one.

3. It's no secret. It's called the New Madrid fault
It was a huge earthquake last time it let go. Reversing the flow of the Mississippi; causing geisers of sand (!!) and being felt all the way to the east coast. Next time it goes off big it's potentiall gonna wreak havoc from Memphis through St Louis.

Allstate wants to make profits, not settlements. Frankly I think their behavior borders on immoral.

4. Yes, I know about the New Madrid fault and that is why I am insured.
Actually, it was just a few dollars so I don't feel I'm being used. Of course, if it's as bad as they say it will be, I won't be around to collect any settlement. I've thought about that. ;) State Farm has always handled my claims without any problems, except for one. That was water related and they are death on water damage.

5. Allstate cut off my earthquake coverage in Jan (St. Louis)
My agent offered to find alternative earthquake coverage for me -- until he found out my house is 103yo brick. He said IF I found anyone who would cover it, it would be very high premiums, very high deductible, and most likely a small company that would go belly-up should an earthquake ever hit.

I've had this earthquake insurance for at least 10 years, for about $30/year with Allstate. Now I'm just out of luck.

My agent said I would still be covered for any incidental damage after an earthquake though -- if a water line burst & flooded my house, or a fire started, or such -- just not if the house collapsed or the foundation cracked.

Anyway, you might ask your agent about finding you an alternative.

Thanks. I may try that. I wasn't sure if it was possible to get a separate earthquake insurance policy if you had your homeowners insurance with someone else. Because of the wiring type in my home, the company who insures my car won't insure my house, so I hesitate to switch all of it.

It is a frame house - so my parents say they didn't think I'd have to worry a whole lot and maybe didn't need it - unlike their brick house. Interesting to know it might still cover something like water damage.

7. I don't know if they're in St. Louis, but our regional insurance agent, Shelter, carries it
It isn't expensive at all, yet I highly recommend it. Even here in the mid section of the state, if the New Madrid lets go, we're all in for a world of hurt, St. Louis probably more so.

You might just have to buy a seperate policy, I don't know:shrug:

Here's the web site, I recommend them, had them for years and have had no problems<http://www.shelterinsurance.com/> Plus, being regional rather than national means that you're not paying for Florida hurricane damage.
