Showdown with F-ing Phelps today
In Anderson, Missouri at a funeral for another soldier. This will be the test of the new law against protests near funerals.

Group from Kansas plans funeral protest in Missouri on Saturday

Evil rat bastard leave these already victimized families alone! I wish they'd put that mf in jail and lose the key.

Rest in peace, Pvt. Christopher Marion, thank you for your service.

No sign of Phelps group as soldier's funeral concludes
No author given

Family, friends and supporters of a slain Missouri soldier paid their last respects as hundreds of spectators and law officers kept watch outside the Anderson funeral home.

The funeral ended shortly before 2 p.m., with between 100 and 200 veterans and motorcyclists standing at attention, some waving flags, in support of the family.

There was still no sign of Kansas protesters who had vowed to protest in defiance of a new Missouri law that bans funeral protests.

Mourners were preparing to begin a procession to the Jane Cemetery in Jane, Mo

4. I'm in
Goodman, MO about ten miles from Anderson. From what my inlaws told me, Phelps wasn't there, but those vet biker guys were, there were some protestors, but they picked up camp in a hurry and left...there was a TON of cops in Anderson. Most of my inlaws are from Anderson. It was nuts seeing that little town getting so much hub bub on the tv.

5. Citing new laws, church halts funeral pickets in some states

The Associated Press

TULSA, Okla. — A small Kansas church known for its anti-gay protests said Wednesday that it has stopped picketing for now at soldiers’ funerals in states with new laws against the practice.

“We’re not going to get arrested. We obey the law,” said Shirley Phelps-Roper, a lawyer and member of Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, headed by her father, the Rev. Fred Phelps.

Westboro Baptist has outraged mourning communities across the nation by showing up at soldiers’ funerals. Members of the congregation contend that soldiers are being struck down by God for defending a nation that tolerates homosexuality.

In response, several states have passed or considered legislation restricting when and where pickets may demonstrate at funerals.

Phelps-Roper said the group will eventually protest in states with the new laws, but it will find a way to obey the new laws.
