Lawsuit seeks to keep stem cell off ballot
A group opposed to research on early human stem cells has sued to block the initiative petition drive intended to guarantee that such research remains legal in Missouri.

The suit, which was filed Wednesday in Jefferson City, asks the court to halt the gathering of signatures and keep the measure off the November 2006 ballot.

The lawsuit was filed by attorneys for the Alliance Defense Fund, a Scottsdale, Ariz., group founded in 1993 by more than 30 Christian ministries “to aggressively defend religious liberty” by fighting efforts to restrict religious speech in public places.

The group now lists its top priorities as protecting the sanctity of human life, defending family values by opposing policies such as gay marriage, and defending religious freedom.

2. I don't support them, but.....
I think that initiative is a bad idea.
Modifying the constitution is a difficult thing to undo.
We should not keep in mind that the most direct effect of this initiative will be a guarantee of profits and personal career reasearch benefits.
True medical benefits, and cures are only a lofty dream at this point.
Supporting a constitutional search for a cure that guarantees only profits and personal gain before we have a guarantee for health care for everyone is backwards.
