A question about Ashcroft in Missouri.
I was wondering about Ashcroft's connection to Tom DeLay, and since anyone connected to DeLay may be tainted with a whiff of scandal and corruption, it prompted me to ask: is there any trail of scandal attached to Ashcroft in Missouri with or without regard to DeLay.

2. Thanks. Most helpfulI. Now, I did hear a rumor...
that Ashcroft diverted money intended for a nursing home to Leawood to build a swimming pool. Do you have a source for information on that?

3. Leawood is in Kansas
So I don't think this would be accurate.

5. Oops, and I should know better. We used to live in PV.
Although, I do think it was in suburban KC. I heard this from my mother, but she may have gotten her politicians mixed up.

6. Ashcroft recused himself to appoint Fitzgerald
Remember that as AG John Ashcroft was in a perfect position to prevent the avalanche that seems headed for the WH, yet he recused himself and appointed Patrick Fitzgerald to prosecute. Can anyone really believe that Ashcroft was that tight with the WH during the Lie Up to the Iraq Invasion and not be involved in the lies of the WHIraq Group?

Consequently, it would not surprise me to see Fitzgerald indict Ashcroft.

The biggest danger with Ashcroft (IMHO) is that George may appoint him to the Supremes when Miers crashes and burns. How much damage could he do? Consider this.

Ashcroft was a supporter of a thing called the Constitutional Reconstruction Act (2004 it was S.B.2068 & H.R. 3799, I think). Despite the way the CRA is described, the text reads that *any* government employee who does whatever they do (like torture Iraqis, or burn Taliban, drown the poor of New Orleans, declare Martial Law, etc.), cannot be held accountable for their actions if they were done because of the employees belief in a Supreme Being! And Dubya is a government employee.

I think either Miers or Ashcroft would find the Constitutional Reconstruction Act not to be unConstitutional. Not only would that undermine Marbury vs Madison, it would allow Dubya to walk away from any crazy or illegal thing he has done. He just needs a pass under the CRA. In other words, set free because "He was just following his Higher Father's Orders".

Considering the disastrous response to the Miers nomination, the small likelihood of her appointment, could Ashcroft be the second model that Dubya shows off?? If so, Roe v. Wade will be the distraction, while the CRA will be the final nail they try to drive into the coffin of America's Freedoms.
