Medicaid recipients blast cuts covering medical equipment
Thousands of elderly and disabled people are wondering whether the
next knock at the door will be an equipment provider picking up its
rented hospital bed, pressure-relieving mattress or patient lift.

On Sept. 1, the state will no longer pay for most medical equipment
used by adults on Medicaid. Some providers say they have no choice but
to retrieve their equipment.

"Thank goodness the governor left oxygen," said Kathy Serafin, owner
of Provider Plus Inc. in St. Louis. "I was having a difficult time
telling people I was going to take away their oxygen, particularly
since I'm an oxygen user."

2. do you think Blount will have a chance at re-election?
I hope the Dems are getting the stories of these people documented, so Missourians understand what "compassionate conservatism" really means.

7. Yes, I think Blunt has a chance at re-election...for this reason
He is doing all the mean social service cuts now. Americans are notorious for their short term memories. By the time 2007 comes around and he begins campaigning for a second term, those who experienced the worse of the Medicaid cuts will have adjusted to their new paradigm. The Republicans will campaign, as they always do, on the culture war issues of marriage between a man and a woman only (even though voters in MO already have approved a constitutional amendment supporting such) and what they perceive as increased secularization and persecution of the poor, poor Christians.

The Democrats aren't going to go to war for increasing Medicaid that's for sure. I don't see it happening, not in this red state. Maybe the St Louis and Kansas City area Dems but not any of the others.

I would love to be proven wrong.

churchgoers who voted for these people. I'm not sure, but I think wheelchairs were also on the "not necessary" list. I guess the wheelchair bound are just supposed to sit in their beds 24/7? Just read the article, without wheelchair batteries a lot of them will be bed bound.

I don't know if the republicans are just ignorant about the pain and among the more fragile, early death that these actions will cause or if they have done this with full knowledge of the result.

6. For those people who voted for Blunt thinking he
was a good "Christian" man, I say they are experiencing first hand what compassionate Christian conservatism is all about. Perhaps now, instead of being worried about the queers they will actually look at what their preferred candidate wants to do to social programs. Somehow I doubt it...come 2007 many will have forgotten how mean Baby Blunt was and once he begins campaigning on the culture war issues the rural poor will support him and the pugs again, against their class interests.
