Well, that's what his proposal will basically do by eliminating state funding to the Minnesota AIDS Project for HIV prevention efforts. His reason? Because of the language that is used on their Pride Alive website geared toward gay men. In reality the funding for that website and other outreach efforts that use sexuality explicit language comes from PRIVATE FUNDS not tax dollars.
The Star Tribune stated that State Rep Tom Emmer was ' "shocked and disgusted" by explicit language on a gay-outreach website' and "has won approval in a House committee to eliminate all Health Department funding for the state's largest AIDS-prevention program." So because tender Tom's sensibilities were outraged there's a chance that HIV prevention will be hampered and HIV infections and AIDS will increase in Minnesota.
The article also states: "Losing Health Department funding would cut the MAP budget by about 10 percent, including money for the state AIDS hot line, HIV testing clinics and HIV prevention outreach programs, said Lorraine Teel, MAP executive director."
