You can watch the debate on TPT Channel 17 in the Metro or online at the House web site.

1. Rep. Severson is an ass.
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 05:51 PM by Dickie Flatt
He's rude, he's condescending, he's evasive. He won't answer a single question, won't give his opinion on anything. Is this really the best district 14A has to offer?

2. GOPer Mark Olson Appropriates God For His Side
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 05:50 PM by Dickie Flatt
Says God defines marriage not government. Wants to know if people still believe in One Nation Under God, the God who created heterosexual marriage.

3. DFL's Phyllis Kahn asks for definition of "man," "woman;" the House laughs
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 06:04 PM by Dickie Flatt
What an insult to the transgendered. GOPer Severson mocks her question, says he is continually amazed by Kahn's questions.

4. Kahn doesn't like it, adds more science to the debate
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 06:03 PM by Dickie Flatt
Severson says it's anatomical. Kahn says you can have ambiguous genitalia, perhaps the first use of "clitoris" on the House floor. Severson says: well, let's look at the birth certificate.

7. I know personally two couples consisting of people with Y chromosomes
All four people were boys when they were kids. Two are now women. Rep Kahn had a very good question.

6. GOPer DeLaForest: "I hate to break down the Olde Tyme Gospel Hour..."
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 06:19 PM by Dickie Flatt
Says, there's no religious references in this bill. Asks if the bill would stop a religion from defining marriage as the religion interprets it.

GOOD question (although I suspect Severson's "NO" answer was exactly what DeLaForest the Stooge wanted; DLF voted for the amendment last year).
