Patty Wetterling should run again for 6th district. Betty M. for Senate.
Patty Wetterling came close last time in the 6th, and running for an open seat, she would probably win.

For US Senate, let's nominate someone with legislative experience.

I want Congresswoman Betty McCollum to run for US Senate.

McCollum supports verified-voting.

If you want Betty McCollum to run for US Senate, please leave a message with her staff. Contact the DC office and/or MN office.

REP. BETTY MCCOLLUM

2. Check today's Strib for a good story on this
quoting from the article:

She (Wetterling) used some of the remaining campaign funds (from her 2004 congressional race) to commission a statewide poll last week. The results, posted Friday by National Journal's Hotline, showed that among 600 likely general-election voters, Wetterling came out ahead against Republicans Kennedy, former U.S. Sen. Rod Grams and U.S. Rep. Gil Gutknecht. Kennedy and Grams are running, and Gutknecht is considering it. Another GOP Senate candidate is Harold Shudlick, a retired Lutheran minister from Apple Valley.

The poll also suggests that Wetterling would be a stronger DFL candidate than Klobuchar, Ciresi or McCollum.

Steven Schier, a political science professor at Carleton College, said the poll demonstrated Wetterling's extraordinary name recognition. "She's basically a national celebrity ... and a familiar personality compared to her rivals," he said.

5. interesting...Wetterling came close to beating Kennedy on their home turf
already.

It was so disappointing and frustrating that she didn't win. We don't live in her district but gave our time and money to help the effort.

I wonder how many Dems (statewide - not just in her own neck of the woods) would turn out in droves and hand over some money to make sure she beats the weinie THIS time.

Hmm..whomever runs against Mark Kennedy can use his pathetic ads from the last campaign to illustrate his un-Minnesotan values and tactics.

6. Mark Kennedy is a pathetic candidate
He's a three-termer, and he's barely won all three of his elections. In fact, he won his first one by less than 800 votes, IIRC. He's a terrible rep who votes against MN and with Dubya 98%+ of the time.

If we see a "rematch" between Wetterling and Kennedy for the Senate, Patty wins hands down. Her race drew national attention, and even national personalities. John Walsh of America's Most Wanted fame (and a staunch Republican) even did TV ads for her when the Kennedy smear machine went after her. She appeals to the suburban voters and rural voters-- not just the metro area crowd.

She's an ideal statewide candidate IMO, and the DFL knows this. I wouldn't be suprised if she starts getting more support from party insiders within the next couple months.

7. patti wetterling is a pathetic candidate for the U.S. Senate
her message in a nutshell...poor me vote for me.....

a: first she has no legislative exprience espiecially at the federal level. contacts maybe but no real exprience.i feel if she we'er to run for federal office, her place would best be served in the house where she can get legislatetive exprience at a proper pace

b: we need to address a long range plan.first of all i belive we need address sen. daytons and sen. colemans seats.re:daytons seat If we put in to place some one who already has federal exprience that one i feel is betty McCollum. as senator it would relive a whole lot of issues two peaple in mind for coleman's seat 1 is al franken (aar)al is making steps to move back to mn. however, for those who prefer a more serious less comical candidate ted mondale

c: the next thing we need to address is congressional spots. first since as dems we are looking at ether no change the balance of congreesional seats or too minor to make any real difference in the house........so lets see lets get former fbi agent collen rowley to run in the 2nd dist against kline (if not run her for mn st attorney
gen)then daly...cd 3 your guess...cd 4 open cd5 sabo cd 6 wetterling cd 7&8 same men ....

8. From Patty's site.....
""As a private citizen, she worked across party lines, passing more legislation than many members of Congress. Patty was instrumental in the passage of the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children Sex Offender Registration Act on both the state and federal level. Additionally, Patty helped initiate and pass Community Notification (Megan’s Law) and the launch of the Amber Alert system in Minnesota.""

I guess it is kind of bias, but some important facts. She can work with both sides, and actually does have a lot of experience. We would need a more in depth look at what she worked on.

I know the 6th will be a close toss up no matter who runs. I think Wetterling could beat anybody in the 6th this time around. But I honestly believe that we need to put her in the senate.

In a statewide poll, who would win Kennedy or Betty? I don't think Betty has enough recognition outside of the Twin Cities. Kennedy can win rual voters.

So overall, I think Patty Wetterling will be elected to office in 2006. I want her in the senate but could live with house.
