8. Well, that might be true, but negative energy we don't need.
A few letters of support might keep a fire under his ass for his remaining 2 years...I am worried he'll assume the lame duck position and we all know what that position is.

10. How sad it is when even the thought of Rove's machine can kill a campaign
Think about it.

Dayton gets wind that the ratfuckers are going to bring him down, and he knows they will run a media campaign so saturated, so intense, and so damaging to his life that he won't even try to fight against it.

This is the "chilling effect" as applied to politics.

What's to stop Rove from going after the next candidate, though? If Dayton, an incumbent, can be stared down, then how much harder is it going to be for a newbie to win? Is Dayton's honesty really such a liability?

It makes me wonder if there is something he's hiding, some dirt that he knows will come up. Or maybe he fears for his life, and that of his staff? He did evacuate his offices recently...

If I ever doubted that bush murdered our struggling democracy, I have no such doubts now.

12. It sure is a very sad commentary on the state of politics in this country.
Why can't we make Minnesota into Rove's Waterloo and get Dayton back into the race and a winner..just to spite Rove and his minions?!

14. Minnesota: only blue state to get bluer in 2002, we slapped Rove down
Dayton is going to step down, he says, and focus on doing his job instead of fundraising over the next two years.

If we take him at his word, then we ought to be asking him to do everything in his power as a Senator to take Bush down over the next two years, or at least hold him accountable, and find a candidate who can almost certainly win that seat.

By doing that, we win two ways:

We let Dayton be our attack dog in the Senate, undistracted by a reelection race.

We put another person on track now to win that seat, undistracted by having to do the work of a sitting Senator to hold the BFEE accountable.

Dayton, once again, is a genius.

15. Yes. I agree it was a selfless move on his part
and I encourage him to use every bit of influence he has as a Senator to continue to expose the lies and hypocrisy of this administration.

13. Your post really got to me... you are right on!! thank you!
There is nothing to stop Rove...at this point except for us.

So let's keep fighting! Rove got Daschle so why are we letting him get Dayton. Surely we must have a voice left.

11. I wrote him and asked him if he would reconsider
for all the good it will do. I had just sent money during his year end fundraiser.

We do need to change the dynamics of the campaigns. It sucks that money always wins.
