Idiotic letter in Pioneer Press
In the North Suburban Edition local letters page:

I'm tired of constantly being bombarded with sob stories about people in Minnesota who are in poverty and going hungry. With a food shelf on every corner, food donation boxes in every food store, and the taxpayers supplying hundreds of dollars each month for the large welfare constituency, it's unconscionable how anybody could be going hungry.
RAY STOLTZMAN

2. He's of the "It's not happening to me so
it's not happening at all" school of repuke thought. Not to be confused with the "I've got mine. Screw you" repuke doctrine.
Deep thinkers, aren't they?

4. We can't have that
Horrors! The very idea! How DARE those terrible poor people have anything but what little I begrudge them! Charity? Bah! Those poor people should be getting their one meal a day from a rat-infested dumpster.

/sarcasm

Attitudes like that make me wonder if humans are capable of being truly civilized. The only way this guy could ever have compassion for the poor if he's suddenly unemployed and evicted from his home. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but it's sorely tempting.

5. A disturbing number of letters like that have appeared....
in the Strib, as well.

Obviously these people haven't read the articles describing the increasing number of formerly middle class people now resorting to food shelves. Or heard about the difficulty in meeting the increasing need.

What really irks me is that these boneheads never stop to consider how much taxpayers are shelling out for "corporate welfare." We subsidize big business to get them to move to our communities, then we subsidize them again by having to provide social services to their underpaid employees.

I just don't remember reading LTTEs like that ten years ago. I guess the RW revolution has come to fruition if people can publically express sentiments like that without shame.

6. I saw this and it ruined my entire Sunday
I was completely enraged. Where does this ignorant, narrow, selfish, cold, mean thinking come from? It shows how Republican thinking have hardened people--I've got mine, who cares if you've got yours? It goes against everything I thought this country stood for once.
