1. I think it used to be a Spanish station...

which was also carrying some "Catholic" broadcasting. I put "Catholic" in quotes because their main station, 740 AM, is owned by an outfit similar to Salem (Starboard Network).

Salem Communications also owns the sister station to "The Fascist" (I call them "Seig Heil on the Dial"), 980 AM "Spirited Talk Radio". The former slogan was "Interactive Christian Talk". I think they got ridiculed enough for that one that they had to change it. I was always ripping them on their slogan; if it's talk, it is by definition interactive, no? Anyway, 980 AM has shows equally as offensive and far-right as "The Fascist". Lovely individuals like Janet ("Partial-Brain") Parshall, and our own home-grown hatemonger, Todd Friel.

The Starboard Network nazis have just bought 1330 AM, the news station that was being leased to Air America. They're taking over at the end of the month, from what I understand. You can see what they're about here:

They're absolutely horrible, and are diametrically opposed to everything most Catholics support. As far as I can tell (they don't advertise it), they're Opus Dei. "Irrelevant Radio" is just a nonstop parade of political hacks who would be otherwise unemployable if it wasn't for the gilded corporate socialism of the RW think tanks.

I don't know much about Salem, but I can talk your ear off about Starboard. Well, except to say that all of Salem's "talent" seems to be the back-benchers of the far-right. Ingraham in particular is a mystery to me; I cannot understand how anyone that boring and insipid gets to keep a radio show year after year. The others are similar. Gallagher is dumber than a bag of hammers.

3. No, sorry, I haven't.

I would imagine, however, that the AAR site would have some information soon if it doesn't already. You might also check the site (assuming there is one) for High Ground Radio. From what I can tell, it's actually the High Ground people that are leasing the time from 1330-AM and then renting out part of that time to AAR. The High Ground Radio people also have local programming; their late afternoon show is quite good. In addition, 1330-AM carries Ed Schultz, who may be syndicated and not affiliated with AAR.

I have no idea whether High Ground or AAR know much about the incoming owners of 1330-AM (Starboard Network/"Irrelevant Radio"). It's inconceivable to me that someone hasn't told them something, though. Starboard is basically a gold-plated welfare system for discredited hacks like "Dr." Colleen Kelly Mast (she started a whole scam/industry around an abstinence ed program that has been proven totally ineffective) and refugees from the spectacular failure of "CatholicFamilyRadio" (nice Orwellian title) a few years ago.

The AAR (or is it High Ground?) people are buying 1530-AM from--get this--the Starboard people! It was in the Star-Trib yesterday.
