1. a lot of small victories strung together = kickin' GOP ass
Funny how Governor Timmy wants to be all reasonable and bipartisan now that 13 of his henchmen are going to be looking for new day jobs.

2. I saw Deborah Watts speak at the Edwards rally in Maplegrove.
I think she has a future in politics she was very articulate and hip to boot.

3. Shoot, Bloomington precinct 15 still went for Bush
*50.18% (691 votes)
Kerry 48.66 (670 votes)

However - did you notice in today's paper that EDINA went to Kerry? First time it's ever gone Democratic in a presidential race.

5. Just checked the results for my precinct
and both columns for absentee ballots have zeroes in them. I voted absentee so does that mean my ballot wasn't counted? Anyone know what the difference is between "Federal absentee ballot" and "Presidential absentee ballot?" I'm St. Paul, W-7, P-13.

http://electionresults.sos.state.mn.us/20041102/PrecRptByCounty.asp?rq=62RAMSEY&M=CTY&CtyCd=62&CtyNm=RAMSEY

I also noticed that the numbers don't quite match up -- 1277 on the page above vs. 1268 on this page:

http://electionresults.sos.state.mn.us/20041102/ElecRslts.asp?CtyCd=62&M=P&CtyNm=Ramsey

Any ideas where the discrepancy would come in?

7. not a win, but interesting
Did sugar sway votes in 7th District race?

By Mikkel Pates

Agweek Staff Writer

Peterson

FARGO, N.D. - After all the sound and fury about the Central American Free Trade Agreement and the Bush administration trading away the sugar industry, was there any effect on the presidential vote in the Red River Valley? Good question, say those involved with the issue.

Rep. Collin Peterson, D-Minn., withheld his support for Sen. John Kerry's presidential bid until the Massachusetts lawmaker wrote a letter saying he'd oppose CAFTA, in part because of its impact on sugar.

<<.

Kerry pulled more than 43 percent of the vote in the right-leaning district, which was more than the 39 percent that former Vice President Al Gore garnered in 2000.

"As near as I can tell, Kerry did better in the Red River Valley than Gore did, and also in the southern

8. My precinct (Mpls 13-2) went exactly as I had predicted:
approximately 80% Dem, 20% Rep in all races.

It's fun living in one of the bluest parts of a blue state. :-)

9. Deborah RULES! I'm gald she got 38% in your precinct
She was in my class when I went to Camp Wellstone last summer-- right before she decided to run for Congress.

She is an outspoken, grassroots-oriented true-blue Democrat with some great ideas and a good head on her shoulders. In class, I was VERY impressed with her (as were my classmates), and wondered why she hadn't run for office before!

I certainly hope she sticks around and runs for something else some day. Ramstad is very popular in his district, and is very tough to beat-- especially since he's moderate on many social issues. To get above 30% against him is a remarkable accomplishment.

11. I love da range
At the DFL convention, I spent a good portion of Mark Dayton's Saturday night bash talking to a ranger, who was a delegate from around Chisholm.

He said that they only call it a close election when Oberstar wins by less than 70% of the vote.

Gotta love the range! Good DFLers!
