Meet and Greet Artists from Iraq on Wed, 8/11 6:30pm at NE minneapolis art Gallery
the Iraq Artists were unable to make it to the Exhibits opening night. So they will be here for another great night at the exhibit.
It was going to be Veterans talking of the art work they submitted but now it will be both US Veteran and Iraq Artists discussing their work.

the art work is really incredible and powerful and I wish everyone would go see it.

One artist, Monica, who is going to speak but together photos her friend took while he was a nurse at Abu Ghraib. It is really creative how she put the photos and words together.

I really encourage you to go on Wed night if you can.

Healing is a process. We truly believe that our work does not simply lie in the presentation of the art exhibit itself, but also in creating a forum for expression on the reality of conflict and war.”--7:30 p.m. Artist’s talk by Monica Haller with Q& A session on her work, Riley and His Story. Art Exhibit: “The Art of Conflict: Identity in War and Displacement”

Now through Saturday, August 28; Tuesdays through Saturdays, 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.Tarnish and Gold Gallery, 1511 Marshall Street Northeast, Minneapolis. “The Art of Conflict: Identity in War and Displacement” visual art exhibit will feature works about violence and displacement from Iraqi and American artists. The opening event will include music, refreshments and an opportunity to meet the featured artists. The gallery will host the artists' 30 pieces of original work until August 28. The show's curator, Tricia Khutoretsky, says, "A process of reconciliation between two groups of people must involve honest, creative dialogue about the past and its effects on the present. ‘The Art of Conflict’ will open that dialogue and engage Minnesotans in experiencing the impact of war and displacement through art. Foreign conflicts can often seem far away, yet they are a continuing reality for many Minnesotans.” Minnesota is home to around 90,000 refugees and 400,000 veterans. “The Art of Conflict” will provide an opportunity for these Minnesotans, and for all Minnesotans, to reflect on the human costs of war from both American and Iraqi perspectives. The show's programming will also include: a film screening of “The Unreturned,” an award-winning documentary about five Iraqi refugee families produced by Nathan Fisher, a Minnesota native; talks by veterans, refugee groups, and others with experience of war and displacement; an arts therapy group for mental health professionals; letter-writing to Iraqis; and special tours for school groups. A digital gallery of the artists' work will be available on the IARP website. Endorsed by: WAMM. FFI: Visit www.reconciliationproject.org, email info@reconciliationproject.org or call 952-545-9981.
