Marty Seifert and Tom Emmer support police-state immigration law for Minnesota
I hope this becomes a major campaign issue. I can't imagine this kind of racist shit will play well in Minnesota:

http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2010/04/28/gop-hopefuls-support-immigration-crackdown/

St. Paul, Minn. — The two leading Republican candidates for governor say they'd favor an Arizona-style immigration crackdown in Minnesota.

State Representatives Marty Seifert and Tom Emmer held up Arizona as a model Wednesday during a radio debate ahead of this week's state GOP convention.

A new Arizona law allows police to check a person's immigration status based on reasonable suspicion. Seifert says if elected governor he'd make sure that any illegal immigrant who commits a crime would be deported ...

... Emmer called the Arizona law a "wonderful first step," and he criticized federal officials for taking issue with Arizona.

1. I fear it will play well with more people than we like to think
especially outside the metro and in Bachmann's district in particular.

2. I missed that part of the interview
They did stop short of calling for the state to succeed from the union. You know things are bad when that question needs to come up.

3. If Emmer only considers that racist law to be a "first step"...
I hate to know what his next step would be.

4. Have Hispanic people sew patches on their clothing.
Or maybe even get tattoos.

Did I just invoke Godwin's law here? Or is this too close to the truth to even be clever?

7. If they have the power in the State, expect the worse. My husband is dark so I suppose he
could easily be targeted.
These folks should not get elected!

5. Ever read the comments on the Strib's website?
They now routinely disable comments for all articles in which Somalis are even mentioned, because the comments become so over-the-top racist.

The articles about the decline of Brookdale brought comments blaming the troubles on the fact that African-Americans (and genuine Africans) now live in Brooklyn Center.

Your average Strib commentators just KNOWS that all Latinos are illegal, that all African-Americans are gang bangers and whores, that Somalis are organized into terrorist cells, and that all three groups are "outbreeding" the white folks.

I predict that the proposal will elicit hearty cheers from the knuckle-draggers who listen to KTLK.

8. Red Lake Rez has a lot of Spanish sur-names and many locals look Hispanic although are
Native Americans. This has to be fought hard! I refuse to have MY State target Native Americans.

9. Reasonable suspicion is vague -- may result in harassment of hearing impaired w/ speech problems
I have a hearing impairment and related speech enunciation changes. Some suspect I am not a U.S. citizen. Is that reasonable?

It is interesting that individuals with disabilities are often brutalized by police just as people of color are often brutalized by police. The Arizona law is more than racist -- it is reminiscent of the standards for human rights set by the Nazis.

10. Heh!
As we are a border state, it's likely (ahem) that most of our problems would be with those Canadians infiltrating out borders.

I suggest we check the papers of every white appearing person just to be sure of their citizenship. Start with Emmer.

since their primary was decided by her out of state endorsement.
