Who do I have to screw to get the DFL to stop calling me?

Prior to the caucus they were calling me EVERY SINGLE DAY trying to find out who I was planning to support and oh by the way, would I like to make a donation? It got so I recognized their phone # and stopped answering until finally I asked them to stop. I told them I'm unemployed and don't have extra $$ for candidiates (which is true). Ok, that lasted about two weeks. Now they are starting up again. DAMN it.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's being constantly harassed this way. I have to wonder how many disgruntled Dems on the fence are being pushed over the edge by this.

1. only way I know is

Don't put your phone number on your voter registration. They use lists of registered voters to call from.
There is more than one phone bank. Each candidate can get the list of registered voters and have there own phone bank so even if you get off the DFL list if your phone number is on the voter list you will still get calls.

2. You should see what happens if you're elected to be a precinct

chair or a convention delegate. They think that you have bags of money stashed behind your couch, and want some of it.

I just explain that I'm helping by giving my time in lieu of money, since I haven't any of the second.

3. I actually hung up on a caller yesterday

She was so obviously reading from a wordy prepared script, that I interrupted her and said, "Lose the script and tell me what you want."

She kept on with the script about all the wonderful things the DFL state reps had done and went on and on with her prepared script. Finally she got to the "suggested donation" part of the script, and it was a ridiculously high figure for my current circumstances.

"Look," I said, "I'm self-employed, and business hasn't been so good lately, so I don't have any extra money to spare."

Did that stop her? Nope, I guess there was a script for that, too. "We realize that many of our constituents are having a hard time but that's why it's doubly important, Ms. Leftcoast, that you contribute to our efforts..."

"Look, money is tight for me for the next couple of weeks..."

Did that stop her? No, she kept reading from the script.

I finally lost it and said, "What part of 'I can't afford it don't you understand?'" and hung up.

I wonder if there are Republican moles in there trying to annoy DFL voters.

4. Sometimes the callers are working for a telemarketing outfit and are not volunteers

Those calls usually come from the state party or the House or Senate caucuses. Several years ago my nephew worked for one of those outfits and just happened to get assigned to DFL calling. They were instructed that they have to get the person they're talking to to say "no" 3 times before the call could end. Because the calls are often recorded and their job depends on following the rules, they keep at it even when they know it makes them sound like assholes. My nephew did not last at that job very long. I don't think many people do.

5. I haven't gotten a single call

I got calls before the precinct caucuses but have not gotten a single one since. My senate district convention is not until March 13, however. Maybe that's why.

Or perhaps I have such a bad reputation for being crabby that no one wants to bug me. LOL

I told a couple of callers for candidates flat out that I would not be supporting their candidate. Maybe that put me on their "do not call" list. I have my choices down to three but have really not decided yet which of the three I will support.

6. Here's what I did to get rid of them.

A few years ago, the DFL kept flooding my inbox with requests for cash. I asked them to remove me from their list many, many times but my requests were routinely ignored. Finally, I had had enough. I replied to one of their emails and told them that since they had ignored all of my requests to remove me from their list, they obviously had no intention of ever doing so. I informed them that from then on, any and all future contact from them, whether it be by email, phone, or snail mail, would result in my making a donation to a third party.

I never heard from them again.


Like you, I also have to question their strategy of relentless hounding people for money. Their refusal to remove me from their email list was just one of the many things that helped push me into the "former Dem" category. (Of course, the party selling us out to the top 1% didn't help matters.)

7. I find it really obnoxious that they have events where you can get "access"

to the Minnesota Congressional and Senate delegations, in the form of a closed cocktail reception, if you donate some four-figure sum.

A REAL people's party would not have such events. It would have coffee and cookie fundraisers in the neighborhoods where everyone would have equal access to their reps.

8. Tell me about it.

I sure didn't get my money's worth for that damn $2500 "Take your picture with Amy" fundraiser I went to. What a waste.}(

There was a fundraiser a few years back where the minimum to get in was $250. For that, you got blessed with getting to be in the same room as McCollum (and probably a few other Reps.). Oh boy! Where do I sign up? What a joke. For the crappy jobs our so-called elected "representatives" have been doing, they should be paying US to put up with them being in the same room as us while we grill them up and down about their pathetic job performance.

"...where everyone would have equal access to their reps." Hey, c'mon now, Lydia. Everyone has equal access. Some just have more equal access than others.

9. I'm out of the splint

and at about 80% of capacity.

80% is great. Yeah, it's not 100% but it's still early. You'll get there.

10. How embarrassing

Your post made me laugh out loud. I would be soooooooooooooooo embarrassed to have my picture taken with Sen. Cruella Klobuchar. That's something like having a picture taken with a pimp. No bragging rights there.

Who would have thunk Cruella would turn out to be such a degenerate? I never liked her but did not expect her to be this bad. Lately, Cruella seems to be trying to improve her cruel image a bit. For photo ops, she hosted a prayer event and even went to Haiti. I doubt anyone is convinced. It is hard to believe that someone like Cruella who is wlling to throw the uninsured under the bus actually cares about anyone in Haiti.

LOL, I hope you know I was joking. Big time. I pegged Klobuchar as a sell-out long before she was elected. I never even remotely considered voting for her. I wouldn't even want to be in the same room with her, much less be seen standing next to her in a pic. Hell, I'd rather have my pic taken with a pimp. At least a pimp probably wouldn't be afraid to take a stand on the issues.

Doesn't surprise me that Klobuchar is trying to score points by cashing in on the disaster in Haiti. That's right up her alley. She'll trip all over herself trying to get her face on camera anytime something like that comes up. Taking a stand on the disaster in Haiti? Easy. Taking a stand on health care reform or pretty much any other issue where she fully intends to sell out Minnesotans in favor of her corporate masters? Yeah, not so much.
