I was push-polled today
This is mostly of Southwest Minneapolis interest, but our DFL city council member Betsy Hodges is facing competition from a guy named Kris Broberg.

After seeing his signs on some local lawns, I looked him up and found that his big issue--his only issue--is reducing property taxes. If you look at his website (and you have to REALLY look hard), you find that he is endorsed by the Republicans (surprise, surprise) and the Independence Party (which I think of as the "none of the above" party).

So, I concluded, stealth Republican.

So this afternoon, I get a call asking whom I plan to vote for. "Betsy Hodges," I say.

"Hmph," says the caller. She continues, "Would you still vote for Betsy Hodges if you knew that she voted to raise property taxes?"

"Definitely," I say. "Especially since the Broberg campaign is obviously trying to push-poll me, and I hate push-polls." Slam.

2. just moved to SW MPLS
actually 3 years ago. I don't know much about Betsy Hodges. Can anyone enlighten me?
I didn't know Broberg was Republican but I did know he was a single issue guy so I wasn't interested.
I was thinking of not voting because I know so little about Hodges.
I came from the 6th Ward where candidates go out and door knock and introduce themselves. Not so in the 13th it seems.

5. Kris Broberg
First, I want to say my campaign is not push polling anyone so
if that is your only objection I am not doing it, although I
must confess I am happy to hear someone is presumably helping
me.

Second, show me even ONE issue Hodges is campaigning on?

You've nailed it, no one can figure out what Hodges is running
on, check her sight, I can't figure it out.

I am running on MORE than one issue, but taxes are a huge one
for a lot of people in Southwest, if you care to learn more
call me or www.krisbroberg.org.

TO NAME A FEW:
Keep the Park Board Independent, treat everyone equally
(developers, small business, individual property owners,
renters), Vote No on eliminating the BET, get an Independent
Audit, how about actually fixing the issues the state auditor
has been asking them to correct for at least the last two
years, stop the culture of police abuse, trimming the size of
CPED. )

I would love to learn more about your concerns and earn your
vote. 612-423-8848

We seriously have to drop this Sports team mentality about
parties. It is not about Democrats good Republicans bad or
vice versa.

That is not what I am about. I have reached out to
progressives, a progressive democrat of america managed my
campaign for awhile, Greens (I won the green party straw poll
with 70% of the vote), independents too, IP endorsed. If you
want to vote for party over person or principle I get it,
fine, many people do, I guess that is the point of this whole
web-site. Anyway, if you randomthought or anyone else in
Southwest want to give me a chance call me you might be
surprised what you find.

sincerely,

Kris Broberg

6. Sir, with all due respect, I WAS push-pulled
Now obviously someone is doing it on your behalf, even if your campaign isn't.

I've learned through long experience that if the Republicans are for someone or something, there's got to be a catch somewhere, even if the person or idea sounds good on the surface.

As for the Independence Party, they're just the "none of the above" party, and sad to say, even though my own politics are closer to Green than anything else, the local Green Party is just plain weird, with a lot of stealth Republicans.

7. Three Things
1- The Green Party Straw Poll had a total of 12, yes 12 voters. Did any even live in the 13th Ward? From the other results of that poll it seemed more of a "Screw Anyone DFL" result given the local Green membership.

2- Why were all those "Who is Kris Broberg" signs posted on utility poles along 50th and other streets? Didn't anyone know that is against city ordinance?

3- I'm peeved that property taxes are going up too. But let's see, the 2010 increase is $29 million overall and the GOP Governor cut local government aid to Minneapolis by $21 million. See the connection.

8. I don't vote Republican
ever! I may chose not to vote at all but I will never vote for Republican candidate for any office.
I am also offended by the posters on utility poles around the neighborhood. In the length of time they have been up you could have knocked on every door in the ward. Apparently a sheet of paper and a staple gun don't have to field tough questions.

9. It's never the Republican's fault
Someone else always did it. Whatever happened to the "personal responsibility" they so love to talk about?

3. Hodges could run her own push poll
asking if a person would vote for Broberg if they knew he wanted to cut police & fire protection as well as snow plowing and close a few schools.

That's what will happen without property tax - which wouldn't be as high if Timmy the Tool hadn't vetoed a raise in income taxes for the wealthiest Minnesotans.

4. "Why don't you ask me if I'm voting against the Bromerg Campaign because of push-polling?"
