"Torturing Democracy" movie - Nov 4th at Oak Street Cinema
You all might be interested to know that local Amnesty International activists have rented the Oak Street Cinema for the evening of Nov 4th, 7 to 9 pm, to screen the documentary Torturing Democracy about the events that lead to the U.S. government's decision to use torture to combat terrorism.

Bill Moyers has said of Torturing Democracy, “This one will go into the record books for historians and teachers and others who look back to ask, ‘What did we do?’”

This film is particularly relevant to the human rights community's demands for accountability and transparency from the latest Nobel Peace Prize winner. Those of you who attended any of the recent Rex Fernandez events that Gary set up heard a harrowing cautionary tail of what happens when a popular leader who stands for human rights tries to let bygones be bygones. We can't let that happen here! A week after this screening AI will have a nationwide in-district lobby day on the issue of torture and accountability.

Please help us publicize the film and bring this quintessential human rights issue to peoples' awareness.

Perhaps you could send out a notice to your email lists and friends? All the info you need is at www.AIStPaul.org and www.TorturingDemocracy.org. By next week we will have produce a flyer for this event as well so let me know if you'd like one.
