Never read it in high school. Substitute consumerism for Ingsoc and I think we have a winner!! Same effect it seems anyway....

1. When the Bushies started using Orwellian double talk (even prior to 9-11)
I bought twenty paperback copies of 1984 to hand out to friends in the hope that they'd catch on to what was happening.

Only ever managed to give one copy away (and I don't think that one ever got read).

It sure does seem like a blueprint for the RW world -- and especially news media -- that we live with these days.

2. I just started reading it yesterday
Engrossing book.



I remember Mike Malloy would read about 15 minutes of it every night a couple of years ago, right at the end of his show.
