If one train leaves St. Paul at 11:00 a.m. going 40 m.p.h. and another leaves Bimigy at noon going 60 m.p.h., when will they collide and fall into the river?

In 2010 we want to take a train ride across America. I'm really looking forward to it.

6. It happened just 10 miles from where I live!!!
DRESBACH, Minn. — Emergency crews are at the scene of a train derailment that may involve as many as 40 cars south of Winona. Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand says two Canadian-Pacific trains may have collided. Some of the cars went into the Mississippi River.

La Crescent Fire Chief Bernie Buehler, the incident commander, says the accident happened just before 5:30 a.m. today near the Interstate 90 exit at Dresbach.
Buehler says one train coming from Portage was pulling 100 cars, while the other was coming from La Crescent and carrying 15. Out of the 115 train cars, crews could only see 49 that were left standing. Some of the cars ended up in the river.

Liquid fertilizer is leaking from some of the cars but it is not a danger to the public. There also is the odor of propane in the area because one of the trains knocked out a small propane tank attached to a switching station.

The immediate area has been evacuated and emergency crews are working to secure the two leaks.

Officials says the derailment happened near Lock and Dam No. 7. People are asked not to drive in that area. But Interstate 90 remains open.

Two people have been taken to the hospital; no further details were available.
