3. The Strib's website has a section on the various candidates
Most of the judges seem six of one and half a dozen of the other. Only Tim Tingelstad appears to be a stealth fundie.

Go to this site, enter your zipcode and address, and it will tell you your polling place and the names and positions of the candidates who will be on your ballot:

6. I understand that Lorie Skyerven Gildea is a Republican as well...
Looking at the websites for the judges Gildea and Tingelstad were the two that I could tell were clearly right-wingers, so avoid them. The only candidate whose website really impressed me was Jill Clark, she seems to be someone who would be very fair and she seems to be someone who actually cares about civil rights. I am going to vote for her, but I don't know if I should go with Anderson or Nelson for the other seat if anyone has some guidance let me know.

7. Gildea is a Republican?
She's picked up some impressive endorsements.

8. No to Tingles-head
I interviewed him for an article in Bemidji. No way no how! Super conservative XXXXXXXXXXX. Extreme views concerning the Constitution, History of the Country and on and on. Bad bad Tim!

4. 4th District Court Seat 53 - I'd go with Jane Ranum
she was a DFL state senator for a long time. She represented south Minneapolis, part (maybe all) of Richfield and part of Bloomington.

That's the only name I recognize.

Though I think the Kurt Anderson that's running as an independent in the Senate race may be the Kurt Anderson that I graduated (high school) with. He seems to be a tad more conservative than when I knew him.

12. What if Al won and in 4 years decided to run for president.....
And the absolute, most popular, charasmatic running mate had the last name of "Stein"..... Would that be a deal breaker?

15. With 1% of precincts reporting, Franken is leading Faris 2 to 1
Let's hope those figures hold. :crossfingers:

17. Good. I don't know what Faris' agenda is,
but it's not good. Maybe she inherited her father's egomania (yes, I know Miles Lord is a Democrat, but he's also an egomaniac).

20. Actually, he wasn't always even that good a judge.
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 08:41 PM by ocelot
Judges shouldn't be politically biased, and he was. Even though I agreed with some of his biases, judicial decisions should be based on the law, not politics. Lord sometimes mixed those things up -- and ended up with some his decisions getting reversed on appeal.

22. As I recall from watching election returns with a mathematician gentleman friend
many years ago, there's a point at which the candidate who's behind can never catch up barring the unlikely event that s/he gets 100% of the remaining precincts. I wish I could remember what that point was, though.
