John McCain tore up the script for his Republican National Convention on Sunday, ordering the cancellation of all but essential opening-day activities as Hurricane Gustav churned toward New Orleans.

Bush and Vice President Cheney scrapped plans to address the convention on Monday, and McCain's aides chartered a jet to fly delegates back to their hurricane-threatened states along the Gulf Coast. Campaign manager Rick Davis said the first-night program was being cut from seven hours to two and one half.

They did not do anything during 2006, yet are falling over themselves now. Yet I expect a GOP bounce over this at least in the short term.

2. Better to keep "Gramps" and "Debbie from Accounting"

(McCain and Palin) out of the harsh spotlight. The Rethugs are probably relieved to have reduced the window of opportunity for McCain to get angry or addled while on camera.

I just saw that on a blurb for the 10 o'clock news.

No doubt they'll be sending Mama Bush down to the Gulf to demonstrate just how caring and compassionate they truly are.
