We need to get the lawn signs out
I drove today from St. Cloud, to St. Paul, to Cambridge and back. I looked for lawn signs and bumperstickers.

We are doing ok on the bumper stickers 6 to 2 while driving, I happened to be going to the State Department of Human Services. The visitor parking lot was a sea of Kerry stickers, it did my heart good.

But Bush is clearly winning the lawn sign war. One Kerry sign all the way on I94 to St. Paul.

What was most disconcerting, however, was the number of times there were signs for Democratic Congressional or State House of Senate candidates with no Kerry sign. While some of this might be explained by people not being thrilled with Kerry, I think most of it is because people can't get Kerry lawn signs. I was at a community festival on Saturday and had at least 8 people ask me how to get a sign. The local DFL office can't keep them in, but we have enthusiastic people who want to put up signs, and we are turning the free advertising away.

1. Oh, haven't you heard? "Lawn signs don't vote!" and similar crap...
spewed at me from local Kerry/Edwards headquarters. The "new direction" calls for more paid organizers! Can't afford all those signs. Yeah! THAT'S the ticket!

3. They should make it easier to get the signs
The state GOP has a website set up where people can see all the sign pickup locations with phone numbers, and fill out a form to receive a lawn sign.

And FWIW, I've been seeing more and more lately. In my neighborhood, which went about 55% for Gore, we had only Bush signs for a week or two. But now the Kerry signs easily outnumber the Bush signs, so it's nice to know that we're finally getting signs out there even if it is a bit late.

4. I think you're right
that it's a function of there not being free/easily obtained signs available.

I had my (free) Feingold signs up, and then bought some Kerry/Edwards signs from someone who had put in a bulk order to share. Just today I put out my brand spankin' new Support Our Troops, Vote Bush Out sign!!! (we'll see how long that one sticks around...)

On my semi-rural road that's 4 miles long, there are 5 homes with K/E signs, and one with Bu/Fu signs.

5. I like the GROW America (Get Rid Of W) ones I have been seeing here
in Minnesota!
There has been a shortage of Kerry signs, I know, particularly when those who do have them often have them stolen/vandalized, gee, are we SURPRISED????

Fuckin' RePugnicans.

6. We've had the same problem in Denver
6,000 signs finally came in on Sunday at the DNC headquarters. But even before then, the Kerry signs have far outnumbered the Bush signs. There are far more Kerry signs in my neighborhood than there ever were Gore signs and we've got 5 weeks to go!

7. I heard they want to put them all out at once
I asked for one here in Wisconsin and that's what they told me. They're afraid that people will get used to seeing them and look past them, but if they put them all out at once, it will have a big impact. I heard somewhere else that Oct 9 is when they are going to be putting them out.

8. I know that I have had to do far too much
work getting Kerry/Edwards yard signs here in Ohio. I don't mind going the extra mile but your typical person who might just put one in his or her yard shouldn't have to fart around so much.

Then again, I wonder what the importance factor is in relation to yard signs. Maybe "focus groups" or some other such research precludes the necessity of their mass production and distribution.

12. Got mine up and I live on a busy street
I like the different slogans on each.

If you are having trouble getting a sign it could be that they're so popular that they can't keep them around long enough.

A friend got several from her friend who works for the campaign and people at her office kept saying: Oooh! A Kerry Edwards sign! Can I have one? She barely was able to hang onto the one promised for me.

The solution to the lack of sign availability would be to make your own. If you have a window that's easily seen from the street, hang a handmade sign there, or take a bedsheet and fabric paint and create your own message.

The Two Faced Bush would look great in a window or on a bed sheet.

I see homemade signs all over the place and none of these are for Bush and Cheney.
