Stupid g.d. Taxpayers League
Taxpayers League wants to tear down Floyd B. Olsen's statue at the Capitol and replace it with...wait for it...Reagan! And rename Floyd B. Olsen Memorial Hwy. as.....Reagan!

http://startribune.com/stories/462/4950511.html

From the article:
---------------------
David Strom, president of the Taxpayers League, acknowledged "a bit of tongue-in-cheek" in the petition drive but also said key ideological values are at stake.
"It is finally time to put official celebration of socialism and communism firmly in the past," he said. "Floyd B. Olson represents the failed path of socialism. It is ridiculous that we still celebrate his vision while not properly honoring Reagan's visionary leadership that liberated so many."
----------------------

Dude, erasing history is what Stalin and his henchmen were all about. And that quote! Does he even realize what a parody he is? They make my head feel like it's going to explode. I fucking hate them so very fucking much.

1. Are my taxes paying for socialism?
Yeah, and exactly which taxpayers issues are they working on here?

Oh. Sorry, for a moment there I forget that these guys are just a bunch of hacks.

3. What is with people who want to bury Farmer Labor history?
Besides Strom, there are those active in the DFL who want to drop the F&L from our name. They prefer to deny that there are any people in the state whose tendencies are more Farmer Laborite than Democratic. The excuse usually given is that there aren't as many people farming for a living or who are members of labor unions left in the state. (Like you had to fit one of those slots to be a Farmer Laborite.) :grr:

BTW 2004 marks the 60th anniversay of the merger of the Farmer Labor and Democratic parties.

4. My first thought after reading that article was
of my grad school classmate Sasha, an emigre from the Soviet Union.

He was in a nationally-known pop group called Vyesoliye Rebyata before emigrating in the 1970s, and they had recorded a couple of albums by the time he left.

A couple of years after he came to the States, an old friend sent him the second printing of the last album he had performed on. His image had been airbrushed out of the group pictures of the band, and his name had been removed from the solo credits on the individual songs.

So who's acting like a Soviet apparatchik now?

5. Should start a counter drive to rename
Victory Memorial Pkwy for Clinton.

Drive those idiots out of their minds.
