At the Fair today,
I worked a booth at the Minnesota State Fair today. Looking at the buttons going by, I'd say the Kerry/Edwards buttons outnumbered the Bush/Cheney* buttons by 10 to 1. Of course this was in the Education Building where I wouldn't expect to see a lot of Bushies.

5. I didn't see him.
He was on the grounds somewhere but when I stopped at the DFL booth, I heard he didn't stop there.

So many people were swarming around that the secret service freaked. Source: DFL booth staff member.

7. I was very good
Walked past the 1280 booth and didn't punch *one* idiot.

Of course, my sister helped. She took my wrist and hissed "Don't say ANYthing."

9. Your self-restraint is admirable
If it wouldn't completely destroy my legal career, I'd have a tough time not lunging to throttle a 1280er encountered in the flesh.

wearing my DU t-shirt.

Shouldn't be long until some slack-jawed, drooling Patriot listener gets in my face. I'm looking forward to it.

11. You'll have to go hang by the GOP booth.
A few years ago my friend and I had a batch of our nieces and nephews with us at the fair. As we walk by the GOP booth, we noticed they were passing out balloons to kids as they walked by. The little angels with us started to drift in the direction of the balloons despite admonishions from us to stay away from "those people". One woman from the booth made a point of walking up to my friend's niece and handing her a balloon. Oh, did I get a dirty look when I loudly said "Isn't that just like Republicans, the kids only 5 years old and they're already trying to bribe her."

I'm going to the fair on Thursday, when are you going back?

12. Minnesota State Fair Goers For Truth
I'm sure you all saw the pictures of Kerry eating a corn dog (or was it a Pronto Pup?) at the fair. It has led me to this nightmare ad we might see here:

"John Kerry says he ate a corn dog at the Minnesota State Fair, but witnesses will tell you, it was really a Pronto Pup. John Kerry - how can a man who doesn't know the difference between a corn dog and Pronto Pup lead this nation in these confusing times?" Paid for by the Minnesota State Fair Goers for Truth

13. This is disatrous!
How *could* Kerry choose a corn dog over a Pronto Pup?

15. Actually, it was a poncho dog according to what I read.
Pronto pups are the best, though.

16. I noticed that as well; I saw it all over. I was pretty much a walking ad
for the Dems, laden with buttons; had one guy shake his head at me and say, "Gotta go with GW," to which I replied, "Sorry, I'm a Christian. I don't vote Republican." Got quite the look from him.
I saw MANY more Kerry buttons, and lots of WWWD as well. Made me very happy!

17. We saw Mondale today!
What a treat! He spoke at the DFL booth. I didn't get to talk with him -- it was just me and the two kids (both under 6) who wanted to get on the rides ASAP. I wore my Minnesotans for Kerry t-shirt -- saw a lot of other Kerry t-shirts, esp. vets for Kerry. Saw one Bush pin on a ride operator. And geez, what a sad little booth the greens have. With that Nader head on a pole. How fitting.

23. The Greens had Nader on a pole?
It doesn't sound like them, as they've endorsed David Cobb for President.

It could be the "Nader 2004" group who had the "Ralph on a Stick". I marched near a few of them at the Mayday parade earlier this year (as part of MN for Kucinich), and they weren't getting a whole lot of support. Same goes at the 1st Anniversary Iraq War demo at the state capitol-- they had a table with 2 people, and I didn't see more than a handful of people take literature.

I have a feeling that the Greens are sitting out the Pres race in MN this year, and are working on their local races-- where they actually have a chance of winning something.

25. whoever they were, they do look pathetic this year.
Even in the Powderhorn Neighborhood Mayday parade (where the Democrats are the "right wingers" most of the time), people weren't even giving the Nader folk the time of day. Even though the DFL has said they won't oppose Ralph getting on the ballot, I really really doubt that he'll play a factor this year at all in MN.

Most people know what the stakes are. Either we're re-electing the worst president of the last 100 years, or we're electing Kerry. There's no way to "send a message" other than to toss out the liar-in-chief.

I would never disparage anybody trying to participate in the process, but the Nader folk will need lots of luck this year to get ANY votes.

18. I was at the fair today
no one of any great interest in the DFL booth BUT I have never seen that booth so crowded with people in any other election year. My friend's cousin (okay, he's a friend of mine too) followed me into the booth, wearing his proBush button, and was surprised how nicely he was treated.

I became panicked at one point when we were near the Grandstand. All I saw was people wearing Bush buttons... Then I realized we were passing by the KSTP booth and Joe Soucery (sp) was doing his show.

Overall, my button watching gives Kerry a slight edge. I saw one woman wearing a t-shirt that said "November 2, 2004 - the end of an error".

21. I was at the fair tonight
I bought myself a nice Kerry Edwards button and wore it proudly. I must say I was shocked an appalled by the number of people wearing Bush buttons. Although earlier posts seem to say differently I noticed at least 1/3 more Bush buttons than Kerry.

A friend and I went to investigate, though. I took off my Kerry button (which cost $2, mind you) and we went over to the Repub booth. I felt icky the whole time, but I think we figured it out. The buttons at the repub booth were only .50 or 3 for $1. People are more likely to purchase a button for that price than for 2 bucks.

One thing I definately noticed, though, was that the Repub booth was icky, tucked in the middle of nowhere and not very busy. Our beautiful DFL booth is right in the middle of the action, it's open and lovely and it was packed every single time we walked by there!

Go DFL!

22. Cheney at the fair on Labor Day
I'll be in the DFL booth from 9-1pm, so I'll miss his 12 noon appearence in the grandstand.

Too bad they couldn't have had a stock car race going on at the same time. It would be much more interesting than hearing his droning blather.
