Franken PAC pulls in nearly $170,000

FREDERIC J. FROMMER
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON — Comedian Al Franken, who is mulling a 2008 challenge to Sen. Norm Coleman, has raised $168,000 for his new political action committee in just over two months, according to a campaign finance report.

Franken's Midwest Values PAC so far has made contributions to seven Democratic and independent candidates, including three in Minnesota.

Politicians typically set up such PACs to help build chits to advance their own political futures. By dispensing money to other candidates, they raise their own profile and build goodwill along the way.

Asked whether one motivation in setting up the PAC was to help him create support for a possible Senate race against Coleman, R-Minn., Franken deadpanned: "No, not all. I take great umbrage." ....

TAKE NORMIE OUT!

1. All right! Glad to see one of those he is supporting is Rowley.
Did not see mention of supporting one of the US Senate contenders yet. Very good. I hope he ends up supporting Bell who is the progressive candidate for that office.

2. Pretty sad if Franken considers Tinklenberg "progressive"
In the meantime, Franken said, he wants to help elect progressive candidates, support progressive organizations, and encourage people to get involved in politics.

As of Dec. 31, the last reporting period, the PAC had given $1,000 each to Coleen Rowley, who is challenging Rep. John Kline, R-Minn; Tim Walz, who is challenging Rep. Gil Gutknecht, R-Minn.; and Elwyn Tinklenberg, who is running for the open 6th Congressional District seat in Minnesota.

I certainly won't be contributing to Franken's PAC as long as he continues to piss it away on non-progressive candidates like Tinklenberg, who thumb their noses at Democratic ideals.

Hey Al, do you normally support anti-choice, anti-gay candidates? That's Tinklenberg!

which totally sucks, I suspect, however, that he considers these races to be in play and so wants them for the Dems. But I do want him to take on Norm.
