Mark Kennedy's Voting Record
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 07:21 PM by mndfl
Mark Kennedy votes with President Bush 98 percent of the time; more than any other member of the Minnesota Congressional delegation. Why?
"I have a hundred percent voting record with my mother," Kennedy said. "It just so happens the president agrees with my mother most of the time."

When Mark Kennedy cast the deciding vote on the Republican budget plan that increased the deficit by $35 billion, he voted to cut programs for veterans, the elderly, children, and the poor in order to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
- Cuts Minnesota elementary, secondary and special education by $14.2 million.

- Cuts Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program by $11.4 million, affecting 680,627 Minnesotans who depend on Medicaid.

- Cuts $14.8 billion from student loan programs (the single largest cut ever), which could cost the 173,000 Minnesotans who rely on student loans as much as $5,000.

- Cuts $6.9 million from Head Start, which will force 300 Minnesota children out of the program.

- Cuts child support enforcement by $4.9 billion. Nationwide, its estimated that this cut will result in $212 million in unpaid child support.

Mark Kennedy claims his mother is responsible for his unwavering support of Bush's policies.

Congressman Kennedy, find the courage to take responsibility for yourself or find another line of work. Your mother has better judgement than that.

W. Bush And Myself"
December 8th, 2005 - 4:17pm | Posted by mrw

"I talk often about the similarities between George W. Bush and myself." That's what Mark Kennedy said on December 8, 2000 — exactly five years ago (hear it). And for the next few years, it was true. When he ran for re-election in 2002, Bush was a prominent figure in Mark Kennedy's campaign; one campaign ad opened with footage of Kennedy shaking hands with Bush (see it). And in 2004, Bush called Mark Kennedy his "friend" and said, "I think it's important to have a congressman who can call over to the White House and the President answer the phone. I'll answer Kennedy's calls" (read it).

But now, Kennedy is running a statewide race in a state where George W. Bush lost in 2000 and 2004, and where Bush's disapproval rating tops 60%. Kennedy's campaign of media silence has already begun, as documented by DFLSenate earlier this week. Kennedy might spend less time talking about the similarities between George W. Bush and himself, but he can't erase a long record that shows they're still there. Keep watching DFLSenate over the next few days for more on the ties between Mark Kennedy, the Bush/Cheney White House, and the corrupt Republican establishment.
