Normie voted against ANWR(?)
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 04:48 PM by Oreo
I'm in shock. Can anybody confirm this? The link below shows him voting along with Dayton and all the other reasonable people.

1. It's a fluke
Norm voted for an amendment to take ANWR drilling out of the budget bill (a vote offered by Dayton), but has said that he thinks he'll be voting for the budget bill that includes ANWR drilling.

The message should be for everyone to call him and tell him to vote against the budget bill.

4. When I spoke to Normie's aide the guy said Weasel Boy
would probably vote for the budget bill because of all "the good things for Minnesota" in it even though it meant flipflopping (not his word) on ANWAR. He mentioned community block grants and something else. I didn't know what else was in the bill at the time but now I'm trying to figure out how cuts to medicaid and school lunch programs are "good for Minnesota". I feel another email to Normie coming on.

3. He voted to protect ANWR in an ammendment....
But it looks like he might still flip flop on the budget reconciliations bill.

“When I ran for the Senate, I pledged to oppose drilling in ANWR, and today I honored that commitment,” said Coleman. “Despite our best efforts to strip this provision from the reconciliation bill, ANWR has been included. Each and every time a specific ANWR amendment has come before the Senate I have voted against drilling, and as we progress through the reconciliation process, ANWR will remain a top concern of mine.”

Coleman noted that final passage on reconciliation is expected to occur before the end of the week and that ANWR will be a factor in determining his vote on final passage.

“While I support many of the provisions in reconciliation to spare programs such as extending the MILC safety net for dairy farmers and prohibiting cuts to the food stamp program that are important to Minnesotans, I continue to have concerns about what the Congress is doing with regard to ANWR. Now that ANWR remains in the reconciliation package, I have serious misgivings about sending it to the conference committee,” Coleman said.

8. He must have gotton some heavy pressure from Minnesotans
that, coupled with what's about to happen to Randy Kelly, must have convinced the little rat to start edging his way to the ship's gangplank.

Too late and too transparent Norm. It won't save you in '08.

7. Norman knows this one was in the bag for the admin, and safe to "oppose"
He started floundering on his campaign postition on ANWAR, when the Democrats held the senate before '04, knowing the votes would be close and that orders would be handed down from this admin to Norman's office on how he WILL vote.

Then, when the Republicans made gains in the Senate after the election, he was let off the hook to safely "oppose."

This last stunt/vote was another "I'm moderate, see, the admin's hand is not up my ass" vote, while knowing his party could win without him.

We're still going to hold him to it with this budget vote. I guarantee it.

9. That's exactly how they play the game--on both sides
Next time, on another issue, another vulnerable Republican will be let off the hook to become an InstyModerate...

10. That's exactly what I thought
They had the vote count figured out and Normie could satisfy his constituents by voting against the budget. He looks good and the Re pugs get their way anyway.
