I have heard in the last couple of days of these developments which are starting to cause whiplash in the public service/law enformcement community.
I heard of four or five police departments that were asked to have 22-member tactical squads ready to go to NOLA for a two-week tour of duty to relieve some of the harried NOLA cops. They were supposed to go around the end of this week but now it's on hold and may not happen at all. Some people were getting shots and planning for being gone...same with firefighters.
Some are pissed at Henn Co. Sheriff Pat McGowan...apparently he took off with his sheriff's Department crews before he was asked. made a big production out of it....is he up for re-election soon?=
also: lots of public service agencies/nonprofits were told to expect the first wave of evacuees at Ft. Ripley today....They were gearing up...then they heard from FEMA that none will be here before Sept. 13...
1. The evacuees are afraid of FEMA and with good reason.
Chertoff had a conference call about 8pm CST Sept 7th with the Governors following the forced evacuation by FEMA of people to unknown destinations Monday(Utah, DC and some others). Because of that and the descriptions of some of the 'shelters' People were fleeing the shelters in TX in droves so they stopped all flights Tuesday AM.
They decided to relocate most in the south but even in Knoxville the next morning the 8th, they got three different calls over the morning with different about numbers from FEMA. Ended up with only 60. They already have a thousands there brought in by private groups.
BTW. Camp Ripley was on a list of "FEMA detention camps" online by a couple groups earlier this year. I don't know enough about the two online groups or Camp Ripley to have an opinion. But I thought it was rather interesting that that was where Timmy the tool decided to send them here. I guess what I would like to know is if he knew Camp Ripley was on that list when he made his choice. For PR I would have chosen anywhere else.
