Guess what, Petoskey, MI? You've got Air America!

Looks like WWKK (750) has picked up some of the shows. They also own 1110, which leans to the right.

Here's the site:

This is a very strange lineup for a so-called 'liberal' station. Michael Savage on a 'left-leaning' station? :wtf: Joy Brown?

But they do have Malloy and Franken's shows live. Randi Rhodes is on overnights. Here's the schedule:

Well, hey - it is a small market, and the station just went on. Maybe they'll adjust this in the coming months.

Here's the signal. It hits the northern part of the state:

1. That's great!
We need to get liberal voices heard in places like northern Michigan!

3. I lived in Petoskey from 1977-81
It's close to unbelievable that anything liberal would crop up there. Nice people (as a group), but slightly to the right of Barry Goldwater politically. So, this is way encouraging (although I don't think AM750 even existed back when I was there).
John
Now residing back in his far more Democratic hometown of Saginaw.

5. I think the station isn't familiar with who Michael Savage is

I said the folks in Petoskey were conservative (a la Barry Goldwater). I doubt they're going to tolerate Savage for very long, though, as he wouldn't be their type of person.
When I first went to Petoskey, I was planning on being there for about a week (it is, as you might or might not know, the heart of Michigan's vacation land). To make a few bucks, I bought ten bucks worth of poster board and Sharpie markers and went around downtown offering to make signs for the various stores (I cartoon well).
At the third or fourth store I stopped at, the owner liked my initiative and asked if I wanted a job. I said I sure would and he hired me on the spot. Before long, John L (the owner) found out I was sleeping in the back seat of my car and first put me up at the Perry-Davis Hotel (then the best in town) and then also fronted me the money to rent a room in a boarding house. He also kept me in a job for more than a year.
Later, I had a girlfriend whose parents correctly thought I looked as though I wasn't eating well, and so made it a point to invite me over for dinner every single night and also gave me raiding privileges of their amply-stocked refrigerator. All gratis.
All these folks would (and, in fact, did) identify themselves as Republicans. But I don't think any of them would think much of GWB (though I suspect they'd still vote for him -- it's in their DNA just as surely as being a Democrat is wired into mine) and CERTAINLY wouldn't cotton much to hate-mongering swines like Savage.
John
There ARE good Republicans out there. I still know a few today and knew a lot more back some 25 years ago. I remember them warmly.
I hope this station does well and wish nothing but the best for the beautiful little city of Petoskey and those who live there, Republican or otherwise.
ON EDIT: Re-reading the broadcast sked, I see that the station knows exactly who Michael Savage is. Well, I can hope that they notice the Arbitron rating drops precipitously each evening between 7 and 10 pm, and adjust accordingly.
