Thursday, September 7: Nationwide Organizing Meetings 7pm
In every city where the movement to Drive Out the Bush Regime is, and places where it isn’t yet, people will gather simultaneously at 7pm on Thursday September 7 to get organized. Learn more about making October 5 a giant step toward driving the Bush Regime from office, and meet others ready to organize for a day of mass protest exactly 4 weeks later.

The Detroit Area Organizing Meeting is on Thursday, September 7, at 7:00 p.m. at Xhedos Cafe, 240 W. 9 Mile Road, Ferndale, MI.

Then, on Thursday October 5, in those cities, and more, people will make a huge political statement that cannot be ignored by massing in large numbers to say: "Bring This to a Halt! The World Can't Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime!"

1. Thursday Meeting

Hey,

I attended the meeting. I must say, I was surprised at one woman's response. She was wearing a Nancy Skinner button, and took offense when the first speaker expressed her personal disappointment in both the Republicans and the Democrats in government, as if it was a personal attack on her. As the evening progressed and more was said, this woman seemed to be there with her own agenda. An agenda that felt to me like, "we'll support this, if you'll promote voting for Democratic Party candidates." It looked like she left without any of the flyers or by meeting with any group members.

Now, that was my impression. I was at one end of the gathering, and she and her entourage were at the other. I could be wrong, but I felt as if she was missing the point and was really counter-productive to the meeting.

As you know, I own my own business. And one person stood up and said that capitalism was the problem with this country. I guess by owning my own business, you could call me a capitalist. And I hold no favorable opinion of allowing the government to be the source of business enterprise. That's a discussion for another day. We all had one goal in common - the gathering of a mass of people to show the nation and those in Washington that we mean business with regard to the removal of this administration, and that they had better start listening to the voters, not the lobbyists.

I don't see October 5th as a day that should be telling the world to Vote Democratic. I see it as that it should be telling Washington DC that we're serious about ending the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq. If on October 6th, the Republicans in Congress wake up to this fact and begin impeachment proceedings, and force Bush and his administration out by the mid-term elections, and bring all the troops home by then as well, wouldn't we have achieved our goal? (A guy can dream, can't he?)

But this, "well, if you're personal opinion bashes my party, then I'm going home," attitude solves nothing. Nor does the attitude of "we'll support this rally if you support voting for Democratic Party candidates." That's just what the Bush Crime Family wants us to do. And if anything, it doesn't shed a good light on supporters of Democratic Party candidates.

I consider myself a progressive, liberal, independent. I held my nose as I cast my first vote for a Democratic Party presidential candidate in John Kerry (I didn't hold my nose at the primary, though, when I voted for Kucinich). We need to wake up American citizens who this Administration has put the fear of God into, by turning out in vast numbers on October 5th. Let them make up their own minds who to vote for. The choice may be obvious by then.

2. I didn't see you

I was actually with her and agreed with her, as did a number of people. The first speaker was a real turn off, and if she hadn't opened the meeting, it may have gone very differently.

In theory, I agree with what this group is doing, although I think expecting people to take a day off of work or school is the wrong way to go about it. They'd get much better participation if they did it on a weekend. I do think more people need to be protesting, but they're not going to jeoparize their jobs.

The only way to get rid of these guys is to elect Democrats and go through the impeachment process. They're not going to say, "Oh, look at all the people in the streets. I guess they don't like us, so we should just quit."

Unfortunately, they let people speak at the beginning who were railing against Democrats and it just didn't sit well with a lot of us. The group came off as being way far to the radical left of a lot of us.

Personally, I won't be taking the day off of work -- I just can't. It's my busy time of the year and I have responsibilities I can't shirk.

I also don't think Kelly's point was that we should be telling the world on October 5 to vote Democratic. The problem was that people were inaccurately lumping the Democrats in with the Republicans and bashing them as a whole.

Sorry we disagree on this, but last night was a disappointment to me.

3. I blend in well

I just have one of those common faces that hides well in the crowd. :)

Now, I hope this doesn't sound to harsh. I mean it with great respect.

I disagree with a weekend protest. We've done them. In DC, in Detroit. But how much coverage do they get? Zip. A weekend protest gets people, but no coverage. The politicians are all away from their offices.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, does it really make a sound?:shrug:

Doing it on a week day, closing businesses and stores, then the media has to take notice. Then, the government officials and those seeking to be in the House and Senate also have to take notice.:woohoo:

"Voting Democratic" isn't going to be enough for impeachment. It requires a majority vote in the House and a super-majority in the Senate (66 of 100). There is no way that after November, the Democratic Party will hold 66 of 100 seats in the Senate. Both parties have to realize that the people mean business when they want this Administration removed from office. Election day results are not enough.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is called insanity.:crazy:

I guess the question we must all ask ourselves is how much democracy must be lost before it is worth taking a day off in support of it? :patriot:
