"Dick DeVos is a Brave Man"
Edited on Tue Aug-15-06 10:15 AM by IdaBriggs
It takes a lot of courage to ask people to pay more taxes so that General Motors, Ford, and DaimlerChrysler don’t have to pay their fair share. I mean, just because its 40% of the state budget we’re talking about, and they use the roads, too, and like having “educated” workers is no reason for them not to get a free ride, right? It is indeed better for the people of Michigan to shoulder more of the burden in the way of increased sales taxes, gas taxes, property taxes, and income taxes so that their stockholders can make more money. I mean, when I go to buy a car, and pay 6% sales tax now, that’s going to seem like the “good old days” when I’m paying 12% to cover the shortfall in the state budget his “plan” is going to create.

How brave of Dick DeVos to suggest RAISING TAXES FOR EVERYONE IN MICHIGAN – it might be one of the stupidest ideas in creation, but at least he had the guts to say it.

(So, what do you think? Will this argument work on the folks who only listen to the sound bytes? And is it an accurate representation of the pitfalls of his plan?)

1. If he's so brave, where was he when Kerry was in 'Nam?
Oh, and when did he say he'd raise taxes?

2. By offering to cut the "business tax" which is responsible for 40%
of our states income, he has (if I am understanding this correctly) volunteered to RAISE TAXES ON THE CITIZENS OF MICHIGAN who are going to need to make up the shortfall.

In essence, he is suggesting every single person in Michigan TAKE A PAY CUT. Brave, eh? I mean, campaigning on LESS MONEY IN YOUR POCKET -- wow! Gutsy. Stupid, too. :)

3. Its only the big businesses that benefit from the end of SBT
Most smaller businesses ($500,000K and under) don't even qualify for it. Why should we pay for Walmart? SCAMway? GM? and on and on.

Raising taxes for everyone does not mean that taxes mean the same to everyone.

12% in my household is a hell of alot different than 12% in Dick DeVos's household.

4. Makes sense to me! Do you think the point that DeVos wants to
RAISE TAXES FOR EVERYONE ELSE is being made by my post? It is a "new frame" and I'm trying it out. :)

6. "Are you going to vote for Dick DeVos?" Answer: "HELL NO!"
"The man wants to double my taxes, take money away from public schools, and interfere in my family's private medical decisions! Do I LOOK like a complete idiot?"
