Kwame and Beatty charged with multiple charges
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23779083/

DETROIT - Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, a one-time rising star and as Detroit's youngest elected leader, was charged Monday with perjury and other counts after sexually explicit text messages surfaced that appear to contradict his sworn denials of an affair with a top aide.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy also charged the popular yet polarizing 37-year-old mayor with obstruction of justice and misconduct in office.

Former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty, 37, who also denied under oath that she and Kilpatrick shared a romantic relationship in 2002 and 2003, was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice.

1. 12 counts, Wow, says other counts may still come
Worthy was spectacular in her presentation, very impressive. Cockrell say "sad day for Detroit", but I'm not so sure..Detroit knows how to get rid of it's scoundrels unlike the nation.

2. I don't think they usually know how, but this time they may get it right
I like Worthy a lot. She's got her act together. They're still investigating and I'm pretty sure they'll come up with more.

3. What was the big trial Worthy made her name in?
I've been trying to think, but just can't remember. She is very impressive. I felt like I was watching an episode of "The Wire" this morning.

6. Was she already the prosecutor at that time?
I don't remember the timing. I think she became prosecutor in 2004, so that may be it.

7. She was a career prosecutor in the Wayne County Prosecutors office at that time.
She was the lead prosecutor in the Malice Green case. It was the early '90s. The case was all over the media for months.

That's where she made her name.

9. I remember the case very well
I just didn't remember the timing or whether this was the case from which she made her name. Now that you've refreshed my memory, it's coming back to me.

SIGNIFICANCE: Shortly after the riots in Los Angeles over the Rodney King beating, the nation watched expectantly as three white police officers stood trial for the assault and murder of a black man in Detroit. Unlike what happened in Los Angeles, two of the officers were convicted of murder.

During the evening of November 5, 1992, Malice Wayne Green, a black, unemployed steelworker, stopped his car to drop off a friend at a house in the inner city of Detroit, Michigan. He was observed by two white police officers, Larry Nevers and Walter Budzyn, who were working under cover and who suspected the location was a drug house. They ordered Green to get out of his car. When he refused, they radioed for backup help; then they dragged him out. Noticing that Green kept one fist clenched, the officers ordered him to open it. When he balked, they started beating his fist with their heavy metal flashlights.

While the policemen were beating Green, five additional officers arrived in response to the backup call. By then, it was later alleged, Nevers and Budzyn were hitting Green on the head with their flashlights. One of the five, a white officer named Robert Lessnau, joined in the beating. Another, Sergeant Freddie Douglas, who was the ranking officer at the scene, and who was black, did not participate in the beating; neither did he intervene to stop it.

Malice Green, 34, died that night. The next day, Detroit Police Chief Stanley Knox suspended Nevers, Budzyn, and the five backup officers from the police force without pay. An autopsy a few days later revealed that Green had died of a torn scalp and as many as 12 to 14 blows to the head, and that he had both cocaine and alcohol in his system at the time of his death. On November 16, Wayne County Prosecutor John D. O'Hair charged officers Budzyn and Nevers with second-degree murder. Sergeant Douglas was charged with involuntary manslaughter and willful neglect of duty for failing to stop the beating, and Officer Lessnau was charged with aggravated assault. All four pleaded not guilty. The three other officers were kept on indefinite suspension, but prosecutor O'Hair said he did not have enough evidence to charge them with a crime.

10. Worthy was REALLY worthy today!
On her Prosecuting Team is Lisa Lindsey. I went to high school with Lisa (yet ANOTHER Cass Tech Alum). She's tough. She's very good.

12. Kim Worthy Didn't Let Us Down.
Now if that sleaze just doesn't get away with it. If he loves the city as much as he says then he should step down, go to trial like any of us would, and let the story die down. But he will fight to the end because he has no intention on giving up his crown. I just have a bad feeling about this, cynic that I am.

13. This whole thing reminds me of Clinton/Monica impeachmentgate
So, President Clinton, while we have you on this witness stand investigating the "Whitewater affair", did you by any chance ever have sex with Monica Lewinsky? No? Hmmm....

So, Mayor Kilpatrick, while we have you on this witness stand investigating the firing of these police officers, did you by any chance ever have sex with your Chief of Staff? No? Hmmm...
