Dollars Adding up Quickly for 9th House Candidates

By Greg Kowalski
Staff writer

In the race for the U.S. 9th House seat, Gary Peters may be winning the battle of the bucks, at least on the Democratic side of the ticket.

On Thursday, Peters announced he "has received more contributions to date than any previous candidate to take on Republican Joe Knollenberg."

Peters said he raised $183,414 last quarter for a total of $401,217.

"Whether it's people I meet at house parties and club meetings or the nearly 1,000 individuals that have contributed to our campaign, every day I see momentum building for our grass-roots campaign," Peters said in a prepared statement.

It isn't clear how much ahead that puts him against rival Democrat Nancy Skinner, who said a tally of donations hasn't been made yet. "I've been getting small donations from around the county," Skinner said.

(Skinner ended the quarter with $6700 cash on hand.)

1. Skinner lied to the reporter
Her quote in the article was that she didn't have a tally of 4th quarter donations. Her FEC report was filed on 1/31/08 and she didn't win the DFA All-Star contest until a couple days ago, so it's clear she knew her 4th quarter numbers, but chose not to reveal them to the reporter and the reporter didn't do his homework and go to the FEC web site to check for Skinner's 4th quarter report.

I guess Skinner was trying to save face by not revealing her abysmal numbers, but I'm guess she was asked a straightforward question by the reporter and Nancy chose to mislead (lie) him with her answer.

2. Her FEC report was filed on 1/31/08?
Hey, it takes time to count to $6,800.

3. Amazing, isn't it
how long it can take to add up a couple hundred donations?

4. "Lied" is an assumption on your part, based on my reading...
of the article. There is no clear indication of when the reporter interviewed Nancy.

Bush is the decider. You are the assumer.

5. That's not true either
Clearly he talked to her after she won the DFA contest, so that puts a time frame on it.
