North Shore Labor Council Dinner with Howard Dean

As Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Howard Dean is focused on re-energizing the Democratic Party. His goal is to make the party competitive in every race, while standing up for Democrats' core values. In his bid for president, Dean advocated for a federal ban on mandatory overtime, a restoration of OSHA's ergonomics standards, and stronger staffing standards for both acute and long-term care. Dean opposed the war in Iraq. In 2004, Dean founded Democracy for America, which works on a grassroots level to elect progressive candidates. Individual tickets: $35 for delegates $40 for non delegates $20 for students. NOTE: Tickets are limited and will be held at the door.

1. Thanks for the heads-up. Attended. Interesting.
Being a tech professional, I had misgivings about showing up. But, other than knowing
no one, it was an uplifting gathering.

In these times of media carpet-bombing of liberals, it is really great to be in a room where
the speaker calls Bush "rotten" and gets cheers from 500 people.

I listened to what Dr. Dean said, and I loved it:
....Run in 50 states.
....Organize at the precinct level
....Don't be Republican-lite
....Speak from your heart, not from a poll.

This is stuff that doesn't get into the media.

Not quite sure if I have much I can do relating to labor organizing, but I am thinking. Still,
Lynn, Peabody are 35-40 minutes drive from home.

Thanks again,

arendt

P.S. Did anyone else attend.

2. I was there
I was like a child waiting for Santa all week, I was so excited.

It was a great evening, ...well...except for when Jeff Crosby announced that "Patrick Deval" was in the audience.....OOOPS....

I kept squirming a little, too, when it was pointed out that the big white banner behind the podium read that it was the North Shore Labor Council's 10th Annual Legislative DINER, and the program book said that ReverAnd Jane Bearden was giving the Invocation.

But those were minor little things.

AFL-CIO President Hayes was superb.
Congressman Tierney was (as usual) dynamic and inspiring
Chairman Dean was OUTSTANDING!

Where were you sitting? I wish I had known you were going to be there. I would have loved to have seen you.

3. Yes, I noticed all those little things, but it was amazing to be in a
room full of really committed old-school Democrats. None of the hyper-intellectual angst,
just old-fashioned social justice. God I miss social justice.

We were sitting at the back on the center aisle at a table with five kids from Brandeis. We got to
shake Dr. Dean's hand on his way out. I was wearing a black corduroy blazer.

We live up in the Merrimac Valley, how about you?

Regards,

arendt

4. I totally agree....
Being in a room filled with 500 people who think the way I do was SUPER.

I was sitting in the back of the room too, actually just outside the kitchen door. We may have been only 2 or 3 tables away from each other.

I was in a black suit with pink pin stripes, and a pink shell. I did walk over to the place Dr. Dean was standing while he was waiting to be introduced and took a couple of pictures.

I live in Peabody, and the restaurant is only 3 1/2 miles from home. I am VERY proud that John Tierney is my Congressman. I am also proud that he calls me "friend" as well as constituant and supporter.
