Mass Democratic Party Platform has missing and flawed planks
Edited on Thu May-12-05 12:15 PM by paineinthearse
Received by email from CPPAX, posted with permission. PM me for contact information.

-------------------------------------------------------

Dear Progressive Delegate:

Sorry to trouble you again.

It's not too late to get involved in the petition drives to change the 2005 Massachusetts Democratic Party Platform, which has missing and flawed planks. We are seeking progressive delegates (and others) to help gather signatures on petitions to open debate on the floor of the convention.

A previous email described the whole process, but in brief it is as follows.

The planks are:
1. Iraq War (troop withdrawal)

2. Instant Runoff Voting (IRV)

3. Voting Procedures (eliminating the possibility of computer-based voting fraud in MA)

4. Restoring plank: "America in the World," which was deleted for 2005.

Complete texts: http://www.democraticstatecommittee.com/dsc.htm#voting

PICKING UP PETITIONS:
Friday, May 13, 6-midnight
Petitions distributed at Lowell High School (6-8pm)
(corner of French/Kirk Street)
Saturday, May 14, 8-10:30am,
Petitions distributed between Parking Garage and Tsongas Arena

And, please, stop by the CPPAX table at the convention to meet with other progressives.

1. Why would the Dem party support IRV?

2. You're right, it's not in the establishment's interest
But remember, the party is a big tent, and progressives support this measure.

3. Please spoon-feed me a postcard-sized summary of IRV in simple words?
That would make me happy, thanks!

:)

4. I just e-miles you about a meet up tomorrow
Sorry, I should have read this first. I'll try to find the CPPAX table tomorrow so I can put a face to a name. We met a couple of people tonight who are as concerned with voter fraud as my friend. We plan to try and ask the good Doctor about it if we can get a chance. I'd love for someone like him to speak out about this. A lot of folks I know are so disillusioned that they may not vote at all. Tomorrow should be interesting to say the least. Can't wait!
